Cabino named Pinellas Park coach
Jon Cabino, who turns 35 on Monday, was hired to take over the varsity program at Pinellas Park. He replaces Allen Carden, who left the Patriots after four seasons to be the head coach of the Tornadoes.
“I guess you could say it was an early birthday present,” Cabino said.
Cabino was a varsity assistant at Clearwater for six seasons under Jack Coit. In 2004, Cabino took over the school’s junior varsity program and was undefeated his first three seasons. He finished 59-4.
Two months ago, the Tornadoes' varsity position opened up when Coit retired. Cabino applied, then watched as the Clearwater administration cycled through candidates from Florida and beyond.
In the end, the Tornadoes tabbed Carden as the coach.
“I was a little disappointed, but I understood why the decision was made,” Cabino said. “What hurt me was my lack of head coaching experience at the varsity level. Now, I can get that at Pinellas Park.”
Cabino said he was interviewed for the Pinellas Park job on Wednesday. He also said he applied for the opening at Gibbs and had an informal meeting with the school’s administration three weeks ago.
“It came down to whoever offered me a job first,” Cabino said. “I knew I couldn’t go wrong either way.”
On Monday, Cabino plans to meet with the Pinellas Park players.

That is true.. He is gettin alot of attention.... But how does he do alot of talkin????? Since everyone is talkin all this stuff on the blog about him he has alot to prove next year.....
Posted by: | June 11, 2008 at 02:21 PM
To be honest... Srdjan and his few fans are getting exactly what they want by all of you talking about him. Whether it be positive or negative you are giving the kid attention. I know P Park is going to be way down next year and Srdjan just happens to be the one player that some people can identify... BUT... he has done nothing at the Varsity level to even come close to receiving even the least bit of attention... let alone all the attention that he is getting on this blog. Srdjan may do ALRIGHT this coming year, but PLEASE let him DO something first. That kid does a lot of TALKING, but let him DO some good ball playing than we can talk about him.

He would have to stand on a chair to hit someone in the mouth.

HIS GAME
Posted by: | June 10, 2008 at 10:21 PM
Yall sure do talk lots about Srdjan man.... I think what would be funny the kid comes out next year and smacks everyone across the face with him game...
Posted by: | June 10, 2008 at 09:53 PM
u must be srdjan's cousin vladystas and he must have told u about that 22 pt game at the family reunion back in serbia...correct???
Posted by: | June 10, 2008 at 09:44 PM
What kids will be fired up? Srdjan? Who cares about him? He is the only player they have and he's not nearly as good as he thinks he is. Good luck coaching him Cabino. If you didnt hear, which he has told everyone he meets, he had 22 against Osceola last year. Riply called because they didnt believe it.
Okaro will be at CHS and East Lake will be the 2nd best team in the North.

Posted by: | June 08, 2008 at 05:11 PM
UMMM Clearwater will be pretty good but still wont go no where..... I herd that ppark is gettin two players from North Carolina and Georgia..... 6'5 and 6'4.. Not bad...Ppark will beat Clw because i know them kids gonna be fired up... I herd now for sure that Srdjan is stayin at ppark and he is not goin to largo or Clw. He will be ready for coach carden for sure. Largo is probably gonna win the districs next year but the attitude on that team might keep them away from that.. And East lake is ummmmm TRASH.... Thats It..

Largo will beat CHS next year because Price is a better coach than carden. East Lake will beat carden by 6. The Park will win by 8. P.Park student
Posted by: | June 07, 2008 at 06:47 PM
You will not be singing his praises after the next year. Remember the Falcons in districts-Lakewood by 30/4-14 against Largo and CHS. Largo and East Lake will give carden to much to handle. He will not handle the presure just like he didn't against the Falcons and the Wood. He better win state with the team he was handed or he will be coaching in Ga. Okaro is goin to the Wood! Largo Fan

Maybe you are not very bright.... so... I will explain... I was making the point that the fans and the nay sayers of the Cardens (whether they be students or parents) won't have any effect on the success of CT basketball. Those of you that fall into that category just need to sit back and be fat, dumb, and happy and enjoy the success that Coach Carden and his son will bring to CT. You folks cheer and ridicule and have the least bit of power and control how that team is run. Coach Carden will take care of your team and you will be singing his praises.
Posted by: | June 07, 2008 at 05:43 PM
yeah kids cheering in the stands win a lot of games
stupidest thing you have said yet
Posted by: | June 07, 2008 at 03:42 PM
One thing is for sure... they won't be good based upon the kids cheering in the stands nor the nay sayers who dislike Carden. Yah, White, Sargent, O'Rourke... they are the reason Carden left to go to CT. They are better players than the run of the mill at P Park. Srdjan Jankovic... PLEASE!!! Those three players I mentioned along with the general influx of talent that goes to Clearwater is the reason Carden went to Clearwater. It was definitely not for OBNOXIOUS CT fans and the overall political bull that people like to play at CT. But, when all is said and done... The two Cardens will be influential in the success of CT basketball.
Posted by: | June 07, 2008 at 03:29 PM
Regan, Okaro, and Julien will make CHS a winner this coming year. If they do not go to state next year it will be on carden. Remember, carden is 4-14 against Largo and CHS and lost to Dunedin in districts and The Wood by 30. Keep this in mind. Pressure is on carden--he does not handle pressure!!!!! Largo fan
Posted by: | June 07, 2008 at 03:23 PM
if they haven't always been good people might listen to you but since they have unlike ppark (one year) you really sounds like a dumb@@@
Posted by: | June 07, 2008 at 01:18 PM
really they will be good because of cardin. how about they will be good because they have some really good players. white will be the best player in the county for the next two years and a blue chip recruit. That is the MAIN reason they will be good. also they have a decend big man in sergent who could be better if pushed and he works (that is where we will see if carden does his job). also with o rourke who has played 3 years on varsity and is an agressive player. it seems to me that carden's will be rewarded with great talent around him that is maturing at the right time. cory will really be getting the benifits because as a point guard how hard is it to give the ball to these players. give them the ball, when your man double teams off you and they kick all you have to do is hit the open 3. who would you rather have beating you cory carden or white. you can put anyone at coach for clearwater and they will be good year in & year out because they have talent!
Posted by: | June 07, 2008 at 12:39 PM
See... I baited you into it... that is exactly why he left because you are right... Pinellas Park does not have the athletes nor the tradition, nor the athletic excellence. Yet, everybody wanted to get on his case because he left. The only point I am trying to make is that in a very indirect manner... CT is getting better because of Pinellas Park. You are welcome! Just remember... most of your upcoming success will be the result of two previous Pinellas Park Patriots. I wish Coach Carden and Cory tremendous luck. I just wish they would have been able to go to a better situation than Clearwater. Obviously they upgraded from P Park, but they could have done much better than Clearwater as well! You CT die hards are really not as good as you think. Good thing you got the Cardens, so that you can progress from your averageness.
Posted by: | June 07, 2008 at 11:28 AM
nothing to do with ppark program if it were that good he would be staying
get a grip and move on
he left because he knows there is nothing there
wake up
Posted by: | June 07, 2008 at 10:05 AM
I guess you could say 8:22... that you owe P Park a great deal of gratitude for your good fortunes of the Cardens coming to you and the CT faithful. So... when the Cardens produce a very successful Tornadoes program and CT goes deep into the State playoffs (which will happen)... just remember... it was the foundation of Pinellas Park basketball that put you guys over the top. You are welcome! Pinellas Park is happy to do it. Good luck Coach Carden and Cory (not so much the rest of you sad CT people though!) The thing is... you won't have the opportunity to UNDERACHIEVE with the Cardens like you did with Coit and the boys last year. Because, well the 07/08 team were obviously severe UNDERACHIEVERS!!!

Posted by: | June 06, 2008 at 08:22 PM
P Park beat the Tornadoes twice this year and they whine, whine, whine! That is hard one to swallow, huh CT? And then you get the coach and one of his sons that beat you guys! So, two former P Park people (player and coach) are going to make the CT basketball program better. That bothers you too, huh? The CT basketball team is going to have to be saved by two individuals from P Park. Just remember that this coming year! Ha, ha
Posted by: | June 06, 2008 at 08:04 PM
ppark fans are great. They suck forever and get Carden and they then win. Now Carden is gone and they will suck again. You all should really just shut up. If you ever see a kid in a gym who sucks you refer to him as " he must be a PPARK player". It works everytime and in every sport.
Posted by: | June 06, 2008 at 09:37 AM
ppark is gonna haunt carden...the ct kids are going to break down after carden puts 100,000,000 miles on them with his 100 game summer and no oil change

Carden did more with less than Coit ever did! I am making a prediction right now.......NO NO NO, actually, im making a GUARANTEE! Carden will take the Tornadoes to the state finals next year.Maybe they win, maybe they dont. But they will be there.GUARANTEED!
Posted by: RSPP | June 05, 2008 at 05:59 PM
Thank you RSPP it was good coaching.
Coit has over 700 wins and went to Lakeland 2 times. Carden will never get out of regionals (yes just like this year at pathetic park, you remember that 30 point blow out right? show that video of great coaching by the redneck)

What is cardens record as a head coach?
Posted by: | June 03, 2008 at 11:41 AM
Clearwater played seven when the game was on the line. O'Brien and Sargent were the subs. They only had nine players. Clearwater Booster
Posted by: | June 03, 2008 at 11:35 AM
Compare the amount of seasons both had as head coaches. Clearwater will win next year because of the talent at CHS and the lack of talent in the county.
Posted by: | June 03, 2008 at 11:22 AM
Why do we care so much about Srdjan? The kid can shoot a little bit... if he is wide open! Tell me what else he does on the court? And yes... he did not play that much last year, because he should have been on the JV playing major minutes. But, he wanted to play Varsity and truthfully P Park had no bench, so he was as close as we could get to having someone on the floor who might contribute. So, don't use the excuse that he didn't play as your reason to his very little output. He had one game where he scored 20 plus and do you know who that was against? Osceola! Wow! Impressive, right! The kid has some promise, but he is not a prime time player. I just really have no idea what the interest in Srdjan is all about. Maybe the talent in Pinellas County is dropping considerably that he has to be mentioned. By the way... I think the talent is dropping!
Posted by: | June 03, 2008 at 11:02 AM
Who cares about Srdjan anyway? He must be writting this blog himself.
You can find Rudy at CHS all the time. His son plays there.
What does it mean to want the records from the coaches? One coach is 60's and one in the 40's. I guess Coit has twice the wins.
Heres the real deal. Coit had a LOADED ball club last year. He was hurt when 2 left for East Lake who could both play. CHS went down hill after Christmas. He played 6 kids and when anyone got in foul trouble he was done. He never used his bench and it came back to hurt him in the end.
Carden had 3 kids but played 7-9. They would be fresher in the 4th and won games because of it. Yes Cam didnt sit much but the rest of them did.
Wait and see what happens at CHS this season and then you can compare the 2 coaches.

I'll check on both things for you.

1)What is Cardens overall record and Coits??
2)Where is Srdjan going?
