Ferlita resigns as Cobras baseball coach
Hudson baseball coach Vince Ferlita, whose clubs struggled to emerge from the Sunshine Athletic Conference cellar in his four seasons, confirmed Thursday he has resigned to devote more time to his family.
Ferlita, who remains a Cobras football assistant, led Hudson to a 12-12 mark in his inaugural season, but never won more than four games in the ensuing three years. He cited no animosity toward Hudson and didn't rule out the possibility of coaching baseball again in the long-term future.
"It was just time for me to take a step back and spend time with my 11-year-old (son) and reacquaint myself with my wife," said Ferlita, who has missed a number of his son Michael's games in the Greater Hudson Little League.
"To be honest, I'm kind of relieved to get my feet back up underneath me, so to speak."
A former Jesuit High and USF baseball standout, Ferlita spent two years as Cobras junior varsity coach before being hired to replace Jack Ledbetter in 2004. A crash investigator for an insurance company, he earned an annual supplement of $2,387.
