Gruden's son to play for CDS
Jon Gruden II (also known as "Deuce"), the son of Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden, will attend Carrollwood Day School beginning in August and intends to play varsity football for the Patriots, coach Lane McLaughlin confirmed Wednesday. A freshman-to-be, Deuce Gruden has played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back in local youth leagues.
In addition to football, he also is expected to run track at CDS.
"I'm real excited to have him," McLaughlin said. "I hear he's real quick. And who wouldn't want to have an NFL family in their program?"
McLaughlin said he first met the Gruden's during Deuce's application process to CDS.
"It's a great family," McLaughlin said.
The younger Gruden's arrival will coincide with CDS' inaugural season of 11-man football. The Patriots played in a six-man league last fall. The school also is in the process of building a new on-campus stadium, which will have a seating capacity of about 1,000.

Thought he'd end up at Plant

As a comunity can we please leave this man and his family alone. For many years the children of our "home town" athletes have attended different schools within the tampa bay area. Jesuit, Plant, CCC, and even Clearwater have had the kids of our athletes and coaches as normal students. I feel this thread with the caption underneath "Stadium construction nearing start at CDS" is total BS. Let Coach and his family enjoy living in this great community and leave them alone!

Anyone mention academics is this? Or is it all about body armor and codpieces?
No wonder we are mired in Iraq.

HELLLOOOOOOOO-This isn't news. It's crap. Do we really care where he goes to school, or who he plays ball for? You guys need to get a clue. Look for something that is newsworthy instead of garbage.

I guess he wasnt good enough for Plant.

CDS is one of only 5 schools in world approved IB from 1st to 12th grade. Academics are extremely high.

What does this have to do with Carden? Whats wrong with the times. It should be all Carden, all the time.

Guess there arent any public schools good enough
Posted by: Mutterman | May 08, 2008 at 07:55 AM
Could it be that Gruden wants different academics for his kids other than public school? It might even be that he wants his son to play football at a lower level. Either way, I have no problem with it

I figured, "Article about Gruden sending his kid to some school to play football.....no way I'll see anything about Iraq or politics." Guess I was wrong.

Hey 7:04... you brought his name up on a blog that has nothing to do with the topic. Do you think Allen Carden is more of an influential coach than John Gruden? I mean you brought his name up on a blog dealing with an NFL professional coach. You people are so negative about Carden, yet you seem so infatuated with him.

Why is this article in the Lightning section anyways??? And who really cares?

The question is...Where is he going to play in a couple of years once he father gets fired.
Posted by: Andrew | May 08, 2008 at 10:28 AM
The kid is not real athletic get over it. Dad sent him to the only school where he sill be able to play. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone is an athelete. He will get a great education.

The only people who care about this story are The Grudens and the school.

Coach Gruden offered a copy of the Buc's playbook to Carrolwood Day School but no one on the CDS football team could lift it.

john gruden MUST be smart. kept his kid OUT OF plant.

Typical St. Pete Times. Making a non-story into a story. Who cares?

Gruden is the best coach in buccaneers history! Three division titles rankes him #1. Glad you Gruden haters are not makeing the decisions at one buc.

I love they way grudens kid starts out at varsity his first year and the coaches comment" I hear he's real quick" most of us have to work real hard or be that good to make varsity the first year. did this coach even see this kid play yet or is he making varsity because it would be an embarrasment to pop to make jv?
Posted by: Tom | May 09, 2008 at 08:06 AM
Hey Tom,
The school's not big enough to have a JV program. And I've never heard of JV practices in the spring during my entire 46 years around Florida football anyway.
Posted by: Searspatalski | May 09, 2008 at 11:32 AM
Look they did not even have 11 man football last year. THere is no JV program. Why would you send your kid there? Not because he is a good football player. I have seen the kid play flag football, dad make a good choice. He would not be able to compete at a big public school program or even a big private school like Tampa Catholic or even Jesuit. Not everybody is a player. Get over it and leave the guy and the kid alone. Why is a 14 year kid subject to this kind of scruitiny by the times? It is not fair to the kid.
