Jaguars hire hoops coach
The Academy of the Holy Names has hired Chris Kumka as its new girls basketball coach. He replaces Casey Higgins, who led the program for five successful seasons. She resigned after guiding the Jaguars to an 18-10 record last season to spend more time with her family.
Kumka, 32, has been Holy Names' golf coach and middle school boys basketball coach the past two years. He also has served as a Jaguars assistant softball coach.
A native of Maine, Kumka played basketball at the University of New England, where he graduated in 1997 with a degree in education. He spent six seasons as an assistant hoops coach in Maine, including two with the men's team at Southern Maine.
Kumka moved to Tampa in 2004.
