Lamar gets two new offers

Lamar_3Hillsborough's Lindsey Lamar, who plays running back and is a top-flight sprinter, has received two new scholarship offers -- one in football (Wake Forest) and one in track (UCLA). The question isn't just where he'll go, but in what sport will he participate?

"I've got to do both," said Lamar, a rising senior.

Got to?

"If one doesn't work out, I'll have the other to fall back on," Lamar said. "I won't go to a school if they won't let me do both."

953_logoThat's bad news for UCLA. Lamar said Friday the Bruins have told him they want him to concentrate solely on track in college. Unless they reconsider, he says he'll probably look elsewhere.

The good news? He has plenty of options. For football, USF, Boston College and Richmond also have offered, while Duke, Iowa State and Michigan have said offers are likely to come. In track, the Georgia Bulldogs have pulled the trigger.

Comments

If you MUST go D-I...take the football scholarship. There isn't much money in track, and rarely does anyone get a 'full ride' for track. Or go to a D-II school, where you CAN get full ride money between the two sports. D-II allows athletes to play more than one sport, it is much harder to do at D-I, most coaches don't allow it.
