Might Green's future be at QB?

Several college assistants have arrived at Tampa Catholic this spring believing Christian Green would be a receiver in college. But after watching him play, "I think coaches are starting to change their mind that he can play quarterback," Crusaders coach Bob Henriquez said.

Green_2For Henriquez, that was never a question.

Aaron Murray of Plant and Dontae Aycock of Chamberlain might have received more publicity in recent months, but Henriquez believes Green, who will only be a junior in the fall, is every bit as valuable to his respective team. With Green under center, TC played for the Class 2A championship last December before losing to Madison County in the final.

"Neither of them (Murray or Aycock) has led their team to the state championship game,"  Henriquez said. "When it comes down to it, it's about winning. And he's the ultimate winner for our program."

969_logoGreen (6-foot-2, 195 pounds) played receiver as a ninth-grader, but had great success last fall at quarterback, earning all-county honors. However, when Doug Williams Jr., a backup quarterback at Jefferson last fall, transferred to TC in January, some thought Green would move back to receiver.

Not so.

"People keep assuming," Henriquez said. "But he gives us the best chance to win (at QB). He's our quarterback. He's very good. It's his team. He's the playmaker."

Henriquez said he expects Green to have a flurry of scholarship offers once he officially becomes a junior. Some schools may ultimately want him as a receiver, but the coach is confident certain programs, particularly those that run the spread offense, will recruit Green to play quarterback.

"He's only going to get better," Henriquez said.

Elsewhere at TC, Henriquez said the following seniors have received a good amount of interest from Division I-A programs: WR Kenny Broadnax, LB Colin Carter, DE Brandon Green and SS Ralph Grover. "There are no firm offers yet," the coach said, "but they're all recruitable to every scout that's come through."

Maybe Williams can transfer to Jesuit to join Weiner when he goes there after next season!

I am sure Doug Williams kid will leave if the Green kid stays at QB. Green can be a star at three different positions at that school. Williams can only be a star at QB. Best thing for the team is to move him to WR and DB. After the first practice in August they will move Green and Williams will be the QB. After that you cant change schools without sitting out a season.
