Panteliodis to receive Wade Boggs Award

lonso senior LHP/1B Alex Panteliodis will receive the third-annual Wade Boggs Award, given annually by the Hillsborough County Commission to recognize the outstanding athletic and academic accomplishments of a high school baseball player or team, tomorrow.
Panteliodis will be honored at the commission board meeting tomorrow morning at the County Building downtown. He will be presented the award by Boggs, the Hall of Fame third baseman, 12-time All-Star and Tampa native.
Plant senior first baseman Preston Tucker and Durant senior infielder Taed Moses will also be recognized with honorable mention awards.
To be considered for the award, nominees must "exhibit outstanding athletic skills, exceptional academic achievement, good sportsmanship, exemplary conduct and made a substantial contribution to the betterment of the community."
Panteliodis, who has signed to play at Florida, was 9-2 with a 1.88 ERA for the Ravens, who were a state Class 6A top-10 team throughout the year. He won 20 straight decisions dating back to his freshman season. At the plate, he hit .394 with six doubles, four homers and 16 RBIs.
Panteliodis owns an unweighted 3.8 grade point average and is a member of Alonso's Science Honors Club. He has also completed over 100 hours of community service and has coached the Town N' Country Pirates youth baseball team that he once played for.

Wasn't Boggs a hitter? - not a pitcher. Tommy - also a pitcher - got this last year. What's up with that???

They were both great hitters, and if you ever got a chance to see them play they would show you just how much power and RBIs they contributed for the Ravens. But besides all that, Alex is just a great young man and will represents and honor the great Wade Boggs and his great career.
