Bellamy won't make it due to grades
This is FACT
what a shame
Posted by: | June 10, 2008 at 10:15 AM
Since when does USF care about grades?
Posted by: | June 10, 2008 at 10:22 AM
USf cares enough about grades as they will care about how he never shows up on big games. Look at the Largo game he was shut down and dunedin was blown out
Posted by: | June 10, 2008 at 11:55 AM
Bellamy was not shut down against Largo. Maybe you should check your stats. He had over 100 yards in both games and 3 TD's in the first.
The team did not pull through in both of those losses.
The kid does have problems with his grades and that is a fact, who knows he may end up at JUCO but he shows up every game and if he ever makes it to USF he will be a star player for them.

UF never really considered Murray with Tebow there another 2 yrs.
Posted by: | June 10, 2008 at 05:48 PM
Just three commitments? Seems like a low number to me. Also, is this just for football or all sports? I would think there are lots of athletes that have committed to colleges from the class of '09. What's the criteria for this blog, Keith?
Posted by: | June 12, 2008 at 09:37 AM
5:48 = You have NO CLUE what you're talking about. Meyer and QB Coach Dan Mullins courted Murray as hard as anyone I've ever seen.
Posted by: HEY 5:48 | June 12, 2008 at 09:48 AM
This is for all sports ... At this time of year, few juniors outside of football have committed. As the commitments start rolling in, we'll be adding everyone to this list.
Posted by: Keith Niebuhr | June 12, 2008 at 10:50 AM
The following students from the class of 2009 have been listed on your blogs as verbal commitments to schools: Baseball, USF, Jimmie Falla and Nick Lockwood (Jesuit), Ray Delphey (Alonso). Women's Soccer, Univ. of Florida, Jo Dragotta (Gaither). Womens' Gymnastics, LSU, Kaleigh Dickson (Academy of the Holy Names).
Posted by: | June 13, 2008 at 10:32 AM
What about Delphey?
Posted by: | June 13, 2008 at 09:44 PM
Look back at the various articles. I let it be known months ago that Jarvis would be at U of T! He loves Fulmer. Now take this to the bank, Coach K will eventually replace Billy Turner at Chamberlain. Bet the house, the kids and your Momma's dentures.

How could you hit under 300 in high school?
Posted by: | June 14, 2008 at 09:05 AM
Yeah, there's NO EXCUSE for hitting under .300 at the high school level!
Posted by: | June 14, 2008 at 09:16 AM
I am sure the only reason you can even consider a under .300 hitter is because they go to Jesuit. They must have great grades to be a 288 and 293 hitter or maybe thats why USF can't get out of the Tampa/Clearwater area for postseason play. They lost half of the team this season at the end of the season due to grades. The next best thing bring smart kids that hit under 300. maybe you can make them better. There are plenty of kids out there that are better then these two. Delphy can play but 288 and 300 in High School. There are at least 20 better players in Tampa with grades that are better then these two guys. It doesn't hurt to have rich Daddy's and your brother on the team either. Maybe they will have great senior seasons that will justify their ability but right now those stats don't prove it. Go USF !!!
Posted by: under 300 | June 14, 2008 at 11:46 AM
the person who these coaches should be looking at is a kid from bogie (the freak jr)Mr. Forte keep a look at this guy this up-coming year
Posted by: | June 14, 2008 at 01:20 PM
You have to pass the NCAA clearinghouse even to play at USF. With a 2.0 you need about a 1000 SAT score. Bellamy is trying to make up classes over the summer to get up to a 2.0. If he does not get there he wont play in the fall. He probably wont pass the FCAT and get a diploma (certificate of attendance) and will never get a qualifying SAT score. Most likely JUCO if he can pass the FCAT. He he cnat do that he is totaly out of luck. He should have stayed at Saint Pete Catholic where he would not have had to pass the FCAT.
Great wast of raw ability. But there are a bunch of them every year. Coaches and parents have to do a better job of getting them on top of their classes.

what about austin adams from zephyrhills. he commited to play baseball for usf back in december.
Posted by: | June 14, 2008 at 07:55 PM
Just out of curiosity, how does this list get generated? There are a lot of kids from '08 who have committed and never had their name in the paper.
Posted by: | June 14, 2008 at 08:11 PM
I know his brother has had a great season since being cut from Florida.
But these numbers are really not very productive when you really analize his Batting Average, On Base%, Base on Balls, hits, and strike outs.
This had to be a package deal to get his brother because there are several players who are leaving area to play ball that whould have played for USF if seriously considered.

On January 24, 2008 your paper listed Samantha Holle from Chamberlain as a verbal commitment to play softball for the University of Florida.
Posted by: | June 15, 2008 at 11:51 AM
Falla hit .393 for Jesuit this past year not .293.
Posted by: | June 15, 2008 at 11:58 AM
Kieth Niebuhr doesn't have a clue. He just puts names in the paper of the people HE likes. Their is a ton of kids that have commited that he didn't mention. It's like he did it on purpose so he can tell his boss that his articles get the most posts. Atleast that's what it looks like.
Posted by: | June 15, 2008 at 11:58 AM
1. The 2008 kids already have been written about, either via blog or in print. Wanting to get a jump on the '09 class, we started this list. Hopefully it will be a good reference point for readers -- and writers.
2. Thanks for the heads up on Holle. I'm adding the softball commitments today.
3. If anyone is missing, shoot me an email -- kniebuhr@sptimes.com
Posted by: Keith Niebuhr | June 15, 2008 at 02:22 PM
There are several 2008 female commits in particular who never got recognized. This may be the coaches and athletic directors' fault. There is no way Mr. Niebuhr could possibly know about everyone.
Posted by: | June 15, 2008 at 07:45 PM
Notice how the softball commitments don't have their names, schools, and positions in bold print like the others. Screams of discrimination....or maybe a typo.
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 07:35 AM
actually it screems of me having been sick for a few days.
Posted by: Keith Niebuhr | June 17, 2008 at 08:21 AM
You all complained that Pinellas didnt have a list out for 2009 and now you complain you dont like the list??
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 08:54 AM
Keith keep the LIST! The SP TIMES really stepped up in supporting/covering local Bay area sports..GIVE ME A BREAK HATERS..just tear down this MESSAGE BOARD!
Posted by: BayAreaFan | June 17, 2008 at 09:25 AM
Keith, I heard something about Delphey having surgery on his arm this summer. Do you know anything about this?
Posted by: | June 17, 2008 at 11:33 AM
You might want to include baseball player James Dowdell fromm CCC on your list of committments. James orally committed to Boston College at the end of last seasn. Another studen/athlete from Central going on to a top D-1 program. Way to go Maruaders!!!
Posted by: A CCC Fan | June 17, 2008 at 01:36 PM
Might want to add Marlon Mitchell to your list. You reported him as verbally committed to North Carolina State on 8-8-08.
Posted by: | August 12, 2008 at 09:39 AM
If you commit to USF - means you just didn't get any better offers. period.
Posted by: | August 12, 2008 at 08:59 PM
UF never recruited Mitchell for baseball.
Posted by: | August 12, 2008 at 09:01 PM
8:59...Is there a particular sport you're refering to? I would say the vast majority of kids attend the school that gives them the best offer.
Posted by: | August 13, 2008 at 10:36 AM
Quite a few kids missing from the list. When will it be updated?
Posted by: | October 23, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Nobody from Freedom....not surprised.
