Newsome kicker picks Memphis

For Vinny Zaccario, it paid to be patient.

Four months after National Signing Day, the standout Newsome kicker finally has decided which college he'll call home during the next four to five years: The University of Memphis.

Zaccario chose the Tigers over Florida Atlantic, his mother said. He also briefly considered Division I-AA Idaho State, which he visited earlier this year.

As a senior, Zaccario was six of nine on field-goal attempts with a long of 47. He had touchbacks on 26 or his 29 kickoffs. He was a Times all-county selection.

At Memphis, Zaccario is expected to handle kickoff duties and compete with the Tigers' current kicker for the starting spot at placekicker.
