Sweat headed to Barry

Np284640freebaseball11Dunedin third baseman Jamison Sweat has signed a letter of intent to play at Barry University, the senior said today. Sweat, who was the Falcons' offensive leader with team highs in batting average (.423), hits (47) and RBIs (46), chose Barry after receiving offers from SPC and Central Florida Community College. Florida Tech and Florida International were also interested in the Falcons' cleanup hitter.

With Barry's starting third baseman graduating, Sweat said he will have an opportunity to earn immediate playing time with the Buccaneers. Barry is also bringing in a third baseman from community college to compete with Sweat for the starting job. Sweat didn't rule out moving to another position if third base doesn't work out.

"(The coach) wants my bat in the lineup," he said. "If I'm not at third, I think they might try to move me around."

Sweat helped lead Dunedin to a state title (Class 5A) this season for the school's second baseball championship.
