2 Tampa Prep soccer standouts commit
Paige Goodwin and Courtney Zwetsch, two members of the 2008 Tampa Prep state champion girls soccer team, have made oral commitments to Division I programs, Terrapins coach Pam Smith told the Times on Monday. Goodwin is headed to UCF; Zwetsch will play for Florida Atlantic.
Both players are rising seniors.
Goodwin, who will be a four-year starter at forward, was a Times first-team all-county selection last season. She recorded 29 goals and 23 assists for the Class 2A champs. Goodwin chose UCF over Florida State, largely because she thought the program offered her a better chance to earn significant playing time.
"She's very scrappy," Smith said. "She created a lot of our goals. She's also a great player with her head."
Zwetsch split time at keeper in 2007 and excelled during her time in net. She allowed only six goals in 690 minutes of playing time.
"She's a great keeper," Smith said. "She's very good with positioning and great at tracking the high ball."
