AHN athlete sustains ACL injury
Meaghann Ligori, a starting forward for the Academy of the Holy Names basketball team, tore her ACL last weekend while participating at the USF team camp and her status for the upcoming season is unknown. The 5-foot-8 Ligori, a rising junior, was second on the team in rebounding and fourth in scoring last season.
"She's a positive kid, a real upbeat kid," Jaguars basketball coach Chris Kumka said. "I think she's trying to keep her spirits high."
The injury likely will affect the volleyball team, too. Ligori was expected to play that sport this fall. Last year, she was the junior varsity's MVP. She also throws the shot and discus, and runs the 100 meters for the track and field team.
“We were really expecting a lot of good things out of her this winter," Kumka said. "It's disappointing for her first, but also from our standpoint. She was going to be a big part of what we were going to do."

9:30 .... When I first started in this biz 13 years ago, I might have agreed with you. But in my opinion, no sport in Florida has improved as much as girls basketball during the past decade.

Depending on the severity of the tear - a torn ACL is never good news.

Depends. It's at least 6 months of rehab.........she may be able to go at the end of the year.

With a good surgeon and hard work in rehab, she'll bounce back in time to dominate her Senior year.

It's sad the number of female ACL tears that occur over the course of a year..............at least it's an injury these young athletes can recover from......and quite quickly for such a serious injury.
