Lyons transferring to East Lake

86_bobby_lyonsThese days you need a chart to keep up with all the quarterback changes in Pinellas County -- or at least to track Bobby Lyons' nomadic career.

Clearwater Central Catholic coach Mike Jalazo said Lyons, who spent the 2007 spring at Tampa Catholic before moving across the water, is transferring again.

This time to East Lake.

Lyons, a 6-foot-5 junior-to-be, played in the Marauders' spring game and was competing with Ian Coia, among others, for the starting job.

Lyons will now enter another quarterback battle with Sam Shaffer at East Lake. Shaffer was the Eagles' junior varsity quarterback last season and moved in the starting role when Blake Robles transferred to Countryside.

East Lake would be the third team for which Lyons has suited up in 15 months.

He left TC after the '07 spring when it was clear Christian Green would win the Crusaders' quarterback job. In a surreal twist, he came off the bench for the Marauders to throw the winning touchdown pass to David Graziose with 63 seconds remaining in a 15-14 upset of TC last September.

why is he leaving, i thought he played defense and backed up at QB or is it because east lake is a bigger school and he might get a better look from the d-1 schools. it says he is a big kid so what is the problem.

Looks like he can't handle a little competition. What is he going to do when he gets into college?

What happened to the fairly new rule that if you workout with a team over the summer you are only eligible to play athletics at that school?

It wouldn't matter that it's a private school. That's where the rule came from (Bellamy from St. Pete Catholic to Dunedin).

Does he know they only run option at East Lake?

he would get recruited way better if he stayed at CCC. he cant handle a little competition because everyone has been better than him... watched him play against TC, never was or will be a qb...ever.

scouts wont have to see his terrible arm in the option. Sounds like a brilliant idea for him!!!

Lets see if a coach tells you that you are not a QB but a WR you transfer. So now 3 coaches going on 4 wont play him at QB. What will he do after the first practice at Eastlake and they move him to WR on a terrible team. So it will end up not playing QB for the worst team in the county.

I guess you can transfer out of state.

How is he able to play at a public don.t you have live in and area.

he lives right on the border of pasco/pinellas near east lake. and 1:23 he already played football in utah too. nothin works for this kid. he just isnt a football player, the duddes just tall.

WHY IS HE ALLOWED TO PLAY WHEN HE TRANSFERED SO LATE

i went to CCC and watched him play. now i feel sorry for EL's fans...now they have to watch him play

Just for the record, his knee was down on that pass that beat TC. It would have been fourth down and maybe a different out come. Granted they still be them but it did not make much of a difference in a great TC season.

1:23, how the heck do u figure that East Lake is the worst team in the county????
try PHUHS, Seminole, P-Park, Clearwater, Osceola on for size....

east lake may be down cuz they lost some good seniors but my goodness lay off

Robles bailed on East Lake because they lost all the talent to graduation and no one to catch the ball on top of being a running system. When you leave a program whwere you started to compete for a job that says that you think they will be rally terrible.

After you can not transfer anymore they will move him to wide out so they will have someone who can catch the ball. He is a tall quick kid with great hands. He will really help the program. He does not know th system he really does not have a chance to start. He has burned all his bridges. When the move him after the kickoff classic he will have no choice.

Why are all these football players allowed to transfer so late? This isn't about academics...which is why you should be picking a school! This information is from the "Rumor Mill" and may not be true. Check out how many QBs Countryside had in their spring practices and check to see if those students are still there.

IDIOT!!!

FOOTBALL FAN YOU ARE RIGHT YOU ARE AN IDIOT

I agree that it would be tough to come in this late and start as a QB. He did not play spring and does not know anything about the offense. Tell him anything to come to the school and move him to WR and Linebacker or safety. You cant really change schools as a senior. So you get a great WR/LB for two years. Hopefully we will actually be able to pass to him a little bit this year.

does he also play basketball?

He isnt quick and does not even have good hands. Looks good, though.

He quit basketball at CCC when they put him on JV intead of Varisty as a 10th grader

1st he went to St Pete Catholic & Tampa Catholic as a freshman. CCC as a sophmore. Now East Lake? I guess he ran out of Catholic schools. :)

No there still is Jesuit. But it is hard to get in as a junior. Plus I dont think he could pass the entrance exam. Jesuit is the toughest academic chatolic school in the area by a lot.

2:47 I will guess that you do not or did not attend Jesuit, because you spelled catholic wrong!

this kid blows!! he's tall. thats it. he is an average lb but a joke at qb. look out for eric miller to emerge at ccc. he's battled injury his first 2 years but the kid can play!! sorry el fans.

Robbles is offically back at Eastlake. Much better QB who already knows the system and the kid. Bobby is now offically batting 0-4 at QB. Hudson sold them a bill of goods.

why go to eastlake?

Told you Hudson woul promise you anything until after the first practice and you can transfer. Real good move to get some play time a QB. Man did they play you for a chump!

Robles is back!! Ha Ha.

East lake will surprise people this year. And to say they are the worst team in the county is ridiculous. I remember watching them last year and if I'm not mistaken they do have that one good receiver number 3 I believe? Him and Robles make a good combo to go a long with 2 solid running backs. Bobby will fit in nicely at receiver and linebacker.

Last year the graduated the talent. That is why Robles left. Why leave if you dont think that they stink? Bobby did not make varisty in basketball as a 10th grader at CCC so he quit instead of playing JV. The kid and the dad will be a problem all year if he does not quit. How atheletic is a kid who at 6'5" cant make the varsity at CCC in basketball?

Wow. They have him listed as a TE/DL on the roster. No catches.

I actualy felt sorry for the kid watching the Tarpon Eastlake game on TV. The kid was playing DE out of a three point stance and looked copletely lost. He would hookup with the tackle and get driven back every play. He does not use his speed or long arms to help himself at all. He was in on offense at TE some put did not get anything thrown to him. He is out of position and will have no tape at the end of his junior year. Hudson does not use the kid well at all. To bad he wont play in college looking like that.
