Lakewood's Moore names staff
Since being hired more than two weeks ago, Lakewood football coach Cory Moore has been working to put together a staff.
Now, he has one.
Here it is:
Antez Brinson (offensive coordinator, running backs), David Green (receivers), Michael Zilton (quarterbacks), Dino Hoylman (offensive line), Derrick Pollack (offensive line), Mike Sandy (defensive coordinator, linebackers), Mick Gregory (defensive line), Michael Mays (cornerbacks), Maurice Herring (safeties), Gerald Foster (defensive assistant).
"All of my new coaches are guys who have either played in the NFL or CFL," Moore said.

Leave Stevie alone, he cares about the kids & is a Pirate for life!

What about Stevie Thomas at Boca Ciega - he had previous pro experience with the Storm and he was hated by a majority of the team, they won the division in spite of his coaching. I'll bet he doesn't have the same season this year now that he lost the seniors. Former pro - WHO CARES!

They all have not played in the NFL or CFL, that is a dumb comment? Dino NFL? Maurice herring NFL? Mike Sandy NFL? I follow PC football & went to Gibbs. Maurice quit playing at livingston, Mike left Ritgers? bad statement

12:33 - you couldnt be more wrong...playing in the NFL = PLAYING EXPERIENCE - not coaching experience.
Enough of this silly talk, time will tell if this combination works...I for one doubt it!

NFL and CFL equals experience and coaching from o other great coaches, they SHOULD be great coaches, then it will attract the best players, because in the NFL and CFL they will have connections and therefore as we all know "its all about who you know" so hs kids will think if they go to this high school they will get recruited bc they should have some connections to colleges

3:27, you HAVE TO BE KIDDING. On campus coaches? How can the county afford that? If that was the rule, you'd have music and art teachers working as coaches because they would be the only males on staff. What jobs are available for the coaches?
Posted by: | July 30, 2008 at 11:13 AM
No, actually, some of those coaches have been given a chance, and were on the staff for the last several years, and they are terrible.
I was hoping for a heck of a lot more from the "hometown hero".

First All speculation. Drop it and give it a chance. These guys Could be good, maybe not, but we HAVE to give it time.
Second. Whatever they SHOULD have done is irrelevant. They didn't hire Frioud. Save that smack for after the season (If it comes to be true)
Finally, 7:15, Frioud is one guy who backs up what he says. I don't know you want to go around calling him a wh0r. Guess that's why you used no name and did it in a blog.

Should've hired Frioud, he would've gotten a staff together in no time throughout the county. And they would've been teachers.

Or how about someone who has actually coached? Is that too much to ask?
Posted by: | July 29, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Ive meet him, cool dude. Cant just get a staff 2gether a couple weeks before camp. Not that many qualified coached in Pinellas Co. I would trust a guy that has played before some guy who just reads books on football

Is Sandy doing community service at nursing homes? Now that would be interesting!
This whole thing is a farce. No one is rushing to judgement...he did the same ole same ole. Players to look up to? Have any of them even coached before? Do any of them have experience at the HS level? Hell, have any of them even coached flag football with 6 year olds?
Goodness gracious, Lakewood becomes more of a laughing stalk by the day!!

I think you guys are rushing to judgement. From talking to him, it seems like he has a lot of these guys on his staff because he knew them from his playing days. And he also wanted to have some guys with that experience so players have someone to look up to. He has reached out to the area and has his players doing community service (such as visting nursing homes, etc).

Shocker!!! Let's see what racial diversity this staff brings. The fact that Moore was ignorant enough to boast that all his staff has NFL/CFL playing experience is a red flag. What is their teaching / coaching experience? Have they all passed the background check? Hate to jump on the hate Lakewood bandwagon but Moore is making it easy...

how many of them are white?
Posted by: | July 29, 2008 at 03:28 PM
they should be on campus coaches
Posted by: | July 29, 2008 at 03:27 PM
Do you want to know what is worse than Sandy being an actual DC in this county?
..............he is a teacher! Ouch!
Posted by: | July 29, 2008 at 11:29 AM
WOW, so much for that, freshman transfer NOW...
Posted by: | July 29, 2008 at 11:09 AM
This staff is a joke. Brinson and Sandy were what was wrong with the last coaching staff, and not only did he keep them, he still has them as his coordinators.
Same ole same ole at Lakewood!
And when are people going to understand just because you played in the NFL, it doesnt automatically make you a football coach? In reality, they seldom make an average coach, never mind an above average one!
Posted by: | July 29, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Playing in the NFL doesn't make you a good coach. Ask Mike Simmons who let go all of his ex-NFL coaches when they were struggling and Jefferson became a much better team.Ricky Reynolds at Blake had all NFL coaches and how did they do. Being an NFL player doesn't make you a coach. It doesn't mean you can't be a good coach, but it is not a validation on what you can teach. It is not what you know, but what you can get the kids to learn. If this new coach thinks because he has NFL guys coaching, they will automatically be good, that school hired the wrong guy.

So......being a pro is better than a teacher, or a mentor...this is idiotic.

You got to be kidding me...
