Rohrberg leaves Chamberlain for Sunlake

SunlakeDick Rohrberg, Chamberlain's baseball coach for the past 12 seasons, will be Sunlake's new baseball coach on Monday.

Rohrberg compiled a 162-138 record at Chamberlain, leading the Chiefs to the region playoffs five times, including a trip to the region quarterfinals this past season. Chamberlain advanced to the Class 5A final four in 2002 after the Chiefs entered the region tournament with an 11-12 record.

This past season, Chamberlain went 12-14, but advanced to the 5A-10 championship game after an upset of Jesuit. The Chiefs were 9-7 in district play in the county's most competitive district.

Rohrberg, a married father of two, said he has been talking with his family about moving to Pasco or Hernando County for the past two years. He said his wife and 10-year-old daughter are horse enthusiasts and this opportunity allowed for the family to move north with hopes of buying a tract of land where they can raise horses.

Sunlake went 9-16 in its first year of existance under Billy Garcia, who resigned after the season. Rohrberg said he's looking forward to taking the young program forward.

"The whole team is returning from last year," he said. "I'm looking forward to building the program, kind of like what Landy Faedo has been able to do at Alonso, being able to build everything from the start."
