Warchant: McAllister to FSU

DemonteIn an interview with the Times last week, Demonte McAllister said he has pretty much been a Florida State fan his entire life. It now looks like the Alonso star will soon be a Seminole himself.

According to Warchant.com, McAllister, a standout defensive tackle and one of the state's top prospects in the Class of 2009, has committed to FSU.

He is the Seminoles' 13th commitment, and arguably one of their most impressive.

FsuA Rivals.com four-star prospect, McAllister is rated by the same Web site as being Florida's 22nd best senior. The 6-foot-3, 263-pounder was a Times All-County honorable mention selection after his junior season.

McAllister has more than two dozen scholarship offers, but Florida State, it should be noted, was the first to pull the trigger.  McAllister was in Tallahassee all of last week to take part in two separate camps at FSU.

A text message sent to McAllister on Saturday was not returned.

Florida State's defensive line, once dominant, has taken a step back in recent seasons, but that could be about to change. McAllister is the second big-name tackle to commit to FSU. The other is Madison County's Jacobbi McDaniel, whom Rivals.com ranked last week as the state's No. 1 recruit. Last February, the Seminoles signed yet another standout defensive lineman with local ties, Moses McCray of Hillsborough.

Earlier this year, McAllister said he would name his final five schools after spring practice ended. But because he was flooded with offers, he had a change of plan and pushed back that announcement. Eventually, he trimmed the list to nine (Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, FSU, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Southern California and Tennessee).

When interviewed June 19, McAllister said he had 27 offers.

Last week, McAllister said he was looking forward to his trip to Tallahassee.

"I'll be checking things out while I'm up there," he said. "I'll be getting to know the place well."

National Signing Day is next February.

I knew the kid had it in him. Good choice Demonte.

Didn't Warchant also announce that the kid from Armwood was committing to them during spring football and yet he never did.

You mean the one that sucks with Gators right now? Who cares.

GO FSU! Good job!
