Holt transfers to Berkeley Prep

Jake Holt, the last in a long line of brothers who played football in Pinellas County, is transferring from Clearwater to Berkeley Prep, according to his father, Joe Holt Sr.

"We felt this move would give (Jake) more of an academic edge," Holt Sr. said.

Jake applied in the spring and found out he was accpeted into Berkeley Prep in late July, Holt Sr. said. Jake will play tight end, defensive end and punter for the Buccaneers.

The switch in schools is a big change for the Holt family, which has been a fixture with Clearwater High football. Jake's other brothers -- Joe Jr., Jon and Jarrod -- were all -conference players with the Tornadoes who went on to play for Div. I programs. Joe Sr. was a longtime assistant coach at Clearwater and his wife, Abby, was a star athlete who graduated from the school.

"We have a lot of history at Clearwater and some great memories there," Holt Sr. said. "This is just a great academic opportunity for Jake."

Mr. Holt did the best thing for his son. Class people and we will miss them. CHS did pick up a USF 4 year starter as the new o-line coach so they will be fine. Good luck to the Holt family and Thanks for what you all did for the kids.

Carden stole nothing. Kid had a beer no drugs at a Elite camp. Not at a CHS thing but a camp during the summer. He is a great hire when we kick PPHS butt again and go to states.

Clearly none of you know the reputation of the Holt clan...a bunch of very large and VERY bright young men. I think the next youngest is playing at Duke....so the family clearly puts academics on the front burner...and everyone knows it. What this says is that the family no longer feels that Clearwater HS is the best school for their son, and they have made the choice to send him to a fine private school. So things must be rotten at Clearwater if it was good enough for all of the other boys.

As a ex-football coach a fan of HS football...just my 2 cents worth...CWHS is one of the most underachieving football programs year after year in the county IMO.

The wheels must be coming off on Bostic if he can't a Holt in the program. The dad even coahced with him for a long time. What does that tell you.The guy needs to retire already.
