Jefferson QB already turning heads

How much potential does Jefferson quarterback Quentin Williams have? Dragons coach Mike Fenton, who in the past coached area legends Kenny Kelly (Miami) and Stephen Garcia (South Carolina), thinks Williams could someday be every bit as good as they were.

Now consider this: A sophomore, Williams has yet to start a varsity game.

Jeffersonhelmet"He's advanced, there's no doubt about it," Fenton said.

Last fall, Williams (6-foot-1, 180 pounds) was a mid-season call-up to the varsity. Before that, Fenton attended all of his junior varsity games, and to say the least the coach liked what he saw.

"He threw the ball tremendously well," Fenton said. "He had a lot of presence in the pocket. He's a cool customer. And he manages the game very well."

Since then, Williams, who works closely with Fenton and Jefferson assistant Jeremy Earle (once a standout QB at Hillsborough), has only gotten better, Fenton said.

"He has matured a lot," Fenton said. "I almost compare him to (Garcia) when he was a sophomore. They're a lot alike. Quentin is blessed with superb arm strength. He throws darts. He's young, but the sky is the limit. If he does what he's supposed to do and continues to grow, he's going to be one of the big-time QBs in Hillsborough County."

The kid will take his lumps this year but will be awesome as a Junior because Weiner will steal him away after this season.

Please do not let this kid be the Second Coming!!!

I've seen this kid and although he may have a great arm, he is no Steven Garcia. C'mon Fenton, you're still trying to get out of Simmonds shadow. If you guys suck it up like last year, and that's likely, we need to get rid of wild Mike Fenton and his flunky Earle. Both of you guys were better when their was no pressure on you, step up or get out!
