Plant City star has favorites

When it comes to listing his favorite colleges, Plant City linebacker Denzel Drone has two categories: Those that have offered scholarships and those that haven't.

101_denzel_droneThus far, Troy and Western Kentucky have offered. Of the two, Troy is the leader, but both schools likely will get official visits.

Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan State, USF and Wake Forest also have shown interest. From that group, Drone, a three-year starter, lists Wake Forest as his favorite, followed closely by USF. If Wake offers, that school would shoot to the top, he said. "The one that matters the most is Wake Forest," Drone said. "They're honest, up front, don't have any behind-the-back tricks, none of that."

Will Wake offer? Drone is confident the Demon Deacons will -- once he gets his necessary ACT score. Drone (6-foot-2, 230 pounds) said he has a 3.6 GPA; he just needs to improve a little bit on his boards, which he will take again in September. "I'm close," Drone said. "I'm studying often."

Interestingly, Drone did not attend any camps this summer. The reason?

"Most schools I want to go to have already seen me," he said. "They're just waiting on my test score."
