Despite FSU rumor, Giles still committed to Tennessee | Main | Who will be this year's breakout players in Hillsborough County? »

Robinson hopes to do 180 this fall

Traditionally, Robinson has been one of Hillsborough County's better programs. But last season, the Knights struggled to a 1-9 finish.

Offensive line play was one of the team's biggest issues.

RobinsonhelmetThat, however is something tackle Mike Newman, a three-year starter for Robinson, claims won't be the case in 2008. On a scale from 1 to 10, he said last year's group deserved a "4 or 5" for its performance. The line of today, which returns two starters, is at an "8" and "is working toward being a 10," he said.

That number might seem a bit lofty, but that optimism is one sign the Knights aren't content with their play a year ago. And here's another one ...

"We had a great offseason," Newman said. "Everybody was working out and working hard at everything. We're working toward getting a winning attitude. We're getting there."

With Armwood and Plant on a roll, Hillsborough once again solid and Chamberlain looking like it has championship potential, Robinson has become somewhat of a forgotten team. But history says the Knights won't be down for long. And for that matter, so does Newman.

"I really think we're going to surprise some people," Newman said. "We've got a lot of good kids."
