Giles: I'm sitting out
Gaither running back Jarvis Giles has told the Times that he will miss tonight's season opener with a bruised right leg.
Asked in an e-mail from the Times this afternoon whether he would play tonight's game against Chamberlain, he said, "Na, (I'm) sittin' out."
Giles took a helmet to the leg during last week's preseason game against Durant. He returned later in the game on crutches.
Giles, aiming for his third 1,000-yard rushing season, said he returned to practice this week, but that his leg still hurt from the hit.

he must not be disappointed in the lost last year in the playoffs

his 4 star level should start to go down

can you say glass!

Does he know proper English? What does he learn at school? I am glad this guy is a gamer.
Posted by: | September 05, 2008 at 10:54 PM
I know the Gaither coaches are not too happy with this kid. Yeah he's a great talent, maybe the best in the county, but they are tired of his work ethic and selfishness. There's a double standard over at that school and even the players are tired of it. Kantor won't do anything about it because he's......"Jarvis Giles"

Shouldn't reporters run their questions through the coaches first?
Posted by: Emily Post | September 06, 2008 at 10:12 PM
He's scarred to play anyone who has a tough defense, which is proven by him sitting out.
Posted by: Phil | September 06, 2008 at 11:35 PM
He has a history of being scared, he hates to be hit hard, he's going to hate the SEC, hate it every day!
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Phil,
Are you crazy? He had 235 yards against Chamberlain last year so its not about being scared.
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 02:48 PM
well he had 0 yards this year and they still lost like last year so hurt or not gaither will never match up against chambo
Posted by: m | September 07, 2008 at 07:07 PM
Didn't he get totally shut down by Plant last year too? I think that is why he's sitting out. This guy is Lovell Jackson 2.0 Leave your team wondering how hurt you really are for a big game.
Posted by: | September 07, 2008 at 08:31 PM
he had 39 yards vs. Plant last year. He was completely shut down. He gained all of his yards vs. Chamberlain after they spanked them for 3 quarters. Down by like 30 points or more, he broke a couple of long runs vs. Chambo's mop up string defenses. Giles has done nothing vs. the perrenial powers of this county.
Posted by: SHUT DOWN | September 07, 2008 at 09:38 PM
His work ethic is pathetic but the coaches sing his praises. He is late to practice and the coaches let this kid get away with it. Their excuse is he is at tutoring. The players have been sick of it for the last 3 years but nothing will change. The coaches at Gaither are not doing this kid any favors! Wake up Kantor and Company!!!

Thanks for validating my previous post.

Note to Giles:
When the press calls, say "no comment" and refer the calls to your coach.

The head coach is looking out for only giles.j.j lattimore is getting screwed by kantor for a job up at tennessee. He said some bad things about a dam good player to UT.
Posted by: get real | September 08, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Giles is the second most overrated player on Gaither's team, Lattimore is the most. At least Lattimore has the guts enough to play and not hide. If he played he has no more than 40 yards total vs. Plant.
Posted by: | September 08, 2008 at 12:02 PM
Lattimore is a good player. He just need to get more than one or two ballS from the off. And a dam good DE/LB.The kid is well underrated if you ask a lot of pleople who see the kid on friday nite.the oc need to wake up, and not coach each nite with a hate for j.lattimore.

The HC is the problem not any of the rest of the staff. He ruined Chestnut and he's doing it with Giles

Giles is overrated and most of all he's soft. Big Red crushed him last year. He can't play against the big boys on the East side of Tampa.
Posted by: Cowboy Fan | September 08, 2008 at 10:31 PM
Early commitment period makes some kids soft. They are scared to let it all hang out, which is what got them the scholarship offer in the first place. If the kid is truly hurt get off his back. If he is trying to avoid injury blame the system.
Jefferson has some tough players and he did pretty well against them last year.

J Lat is a good football player but not D1. He is big and strong but SLOW. He is also VERY fragile. Hasn't completed a season yet. Now they have him going both ways? Look out JJ. Kantor is famous for not making his players any better. They all stay the same and that includes Chesnut and Giles.
Posted by: | September 09, 2008 at 10:54 AM
Get Real- Did you say Kantor is looking for a job at Tenn or did I misread?
Posted by: | September 09, 2008 at 10:56 AM
The HC is the problem but so is the rest of the staff. They are bad, the good ones left for Chamberlain!
Posted by: | September 09, 2008 at 10:58 AM
With that comment I'll assume you know very little about football and running a program 10:58. Get a clue, if it weren't for some of the guys on that staff that team would be sub .500 and not making the playoffs like it did before they got there. People close to the program know who the real HC of that team is and until he has the official title crap like this will continue to happen. Best thing for this program would be for Kantor to get on his horse and ride out of town.

THE BIG RED OC IS THE REAL HEAD COACH.

oyegunle yemi is slow, and will never play d-1 football.(gaither)
Posted by: MS | September 09, 2008 at 01:52 PM
Obviously you don't know much about Yemi, he is a force to be reckon with. Get your facts straight.
Posted by: | September 09, 2008 at 02:44 PM
Tight end was not a deep position at this camp, but David Paulsen (Walton, Ga.) and Justin Lattimore (Tampa, Fla.) were two that stood out.
Tiger Powell is a big back to watch in 2010.
Paulsen is a very versatile jumbo-athlete and he showed a nice burst, a soft basket to catch the ball in, and good up field speed for his size (6-3, 240 pounds). Lattimore looks the part of a big athlete and he showed signs of becoming a major college prospect Friday night. He was a tough match-up for the linebackers with his combination of size (6-3, 215 pounds) and quickness.

that is a clip from rival on jj lattimore up at georgia football camp.

All the good coaches went to Chamberlain? You mean all the good recruiters went to Chamberlain. The best thing that happened to Gaither was that those parasites left and went to Chamberlain. Kantor and his staff are still repairing their reputations through out the county because of what those sleaze bags did. Gaither will be a better program when Giles leaves, they will not have as many wins but the program will be better off. Hard to understand but the team will be unified, and that's a good thing.
Posted by: Jeff R Son | September 09, 2008 at 03:00 PM
The program at Gaither is being run to the ground. They will be unified until the next "super star" arrives and Kantor and Co. does the same thing with them. I'm not sure who the real HC is. I know who it was and like I said, he is gone. Yemi is a decent player- can't argue with that!
Posted by: | September 10, 2008 at 08:57 AM
Yea because the ones that left are the ones that faught for ( "got eligible" ) a kid that stole from the salvation army food drive and repeadetly told them to f off only to have the kid quit on them early laast year.
Posted by: | September 10, 2008 at 10:22 AM
dam! is this true?
Posted by: go baby go | September 10, 2008 at 10:42 AM
And the HC did nothing about that??? That's what I'm saying. The HC knows all of this and does nothing... he turns his head and pretends he knows nothing! I'm not sure about the kid that stole from the salvation army. Never heard that.
