Saganowich commits to Notre Dame

Sp_283231_alle_softball_01Fulfilling what she called a "lifetime dream," St. Petersburg Catholic pitcher/infielder Chloe Saganowich orally committed to Notre Dame after taking an unofficial visit to the school over the weekend.

Saganowich had visited the Notre Dame campus three times before, twice for camps during her freshman year and again this summer for a camp. This past trip to the South Bend, Ind., campus was the first unofficial visit for Saganowich, and when the Fighting Irish extended an offer to the junior on Saturday, it took all of one day for Saganowich to make her decision.

"On Sunday, before I left, my parents said it was up to me," she said. "I didn't want to wait. I told them there wasn't a point to visit any other schools."

Saganowich said she was hearing from close to 40 schools and was considering taking unofficial visits to USF, FSU, Michigan, Virginia, N.C. State, Princeton, Stanford, Alabama, Penn State and Boston University. Notre Dame was the first school to extend an offer to Saganowich.

"When they offered, I couldn't resist," said Saganowich, who hit .480 and six home runs this past season for the Barons while going 21-4 with a 1.03 ERA on the mound. "When I was there, I just knew I was supposed to be there. The tradition behind the whole school is amazing. Everybody there is one big family. It's not a four-year commitment when you go there, it's a lifetime commitment."

Saganowich said the Notre Dame coaching staff is looking at her strictly as a middle infielder, and she will get a chance to start right away as a freshman.

notre dame stinks

Congratulations to Chloe and her parents, who have done a great job raising her. With her athletic talent and outstanding personal character, she will fit right in as a Notre Dame student....just hope she doesn't change her mind! Work hard, stay healthy, and welcome to the Notre Dame family, Chloe!
