Sheff makes history

Gary_sheffield_autographA quick note on Hillsborough alum Gary Sheffield ...

In case you missed it, Sheffield smacked a second-inning grand slam off Oakland starter Gio Gonzalez on Monday night. According to the good folks at baseball-reference.com, the blast is believed to be the 250,000th homer in Major League history (dating to 1876). Interestingly, MLB.com reported that Sheffield wasn't too hyped about making history. In fact, he was more pleased that he recently passed Tampa native and close friend Fred McGriff to move into 25th place on the Major League's all-time home run list. Sheffield currently has 496 homers.
