So far, so good for Hensons in Tampa

Heralded basketball recruits John and Amber Henson, who moved to the area last month and are attending Sickles, have fit in very well thus far. In fact, "I love it here," John Henson told the Times.

John, a 6-foot-10 senior forward and North Carolina commit, and Amber, a 6-3 sophomore forward who already has scholarship offers from Baylor, Duke, LSU and North Carolina, landed on the doorsteps of Sickles when their father, Matt, decided to take a job here. The family had been living in Round Rock, Texas, a suburb of Austin.

"It's a lot like Round Rock, but a little different," Amber Henson said. "There's about the same diversity. But here, everybody is a little more accepting of each other."

The siblings' father echoed their sentiments.

"We love it," Matt Henson said. "Everybody has really embraced us. (John and Amber) are excited about being here."

Here are two more tidbits about the Hensons ...

  • John and Amber each have nearly perfect grade-point averages.
  • Amber, 14, should actually be a freshman. When she was younger, she skipped a grade.

You get a lot of suck ups and people who are not your friends who are trying to come along for the ride. Lots of phoney people out their just looking to use you. They are great kids just have to be a little gaurded against all the hype and BS.

Thats funny. I would have thought that a good looking NBA bound Athlete with a 4.0 would have a hard time making freinds in highschool.

I have seen a lot of GREAT high school basketball players. I played with a few, and coached and played against a lot. John Henson was the best high school basketball player I have ever seen in person. I saw him play this weekend at the Dodge Shootout in Daytona. He played witha passion that rarely see from players with his skill level, at an event that didnt matter.
