Truluck headed to Florida Gulf Coast University
Countryside senior middle hitter Madison Truluck has accepted an offer to walk on and play volleyball for coach Dave Nichols at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Truluck (5-foot-9), a first team all-state selection last season and one of the best hitters in Pinellas, received little attention from college recruiters because of her diminutive stature by volleyball attacker standards. Truluck also had an offer to walk on at Florida State, but the Seminoles coaching staff saw her more as a libero than an attacker.
"At Florida State, I would have had to be a libero or defensive specialist," Truluck said. "Florida Gulf Coast is a place where the best hitters in the conference are 5-foot-9, 5-foot-10, 5-foot-11. You can hit at that height and have success."
Truluck, who will have 75 percent of her education paid for by Bright Futures, indicated there's still a possibility of receiving a scholarship to play for FGCU.
"(Nichols) has a couple scholarships that he's holding out for a couple girls to see if they accept," she said. "But I think the girls are going to end up coming."

Madison,
Congratulations, having the opportunity to play college volleyball is going to benefit you later. I agree with mr. Dover above.

Congrats Madison. Its refreshing to see someone accept their status and not try to infer that they are on "scholarship". I'm confident she will be succesful and earn that scholarship.
