Jesuit golf peaking at the right time?
The Jesuit golf team will enter the Class A, District 14 golf tournament, which is Monday at The Eagles, on a high note. The Tigers shot a season-low 152 to beat Plant by one and Gaither by nine Thursday at Emerald Greens Golf and Country Club. And they've posted several sub-160 rounds in recent weeks.
"The kids are in the right frame of mind and playing well," Jesuit coach John Crumbley said.
Two Tigers -- Jack Twomey and Trent Silver -- will enter the event with averages below 40. Twomey, a senior who will be a preferred walkon at Ole Miss next year, is at 37.5; Silver (37.9) isn't far behind. Four of Jesuit's starting five were members of last year's squad, which won districts, but just missed reaching state.
On Thursday, Twomey shot 1-over 37. Silver and Anthony Maccaglia finished with rounds of 38 and junior Willi Martin had a career-best 39.
Plant’s Doug Letson led all players with a 2-under 34.
