Tampa Prep star has 3 schools in mind; other VB news

Tampa Prep outside hitter Alena Ransom has narrowed her list of potential colleges to three -- Dartmouth, Emory and Georgetown. But before she picks from that group, Ransom, who carries a 3.91 unweighted GPA and made a 29 on her ACT, has to apply to each of the schools, something she plans to do very soon.

After finding out where she has been accepted (she feels optimistic each of her finalists will admit her), Ransom will pull the trigger. "I have a very, very good relationship with those schools," Ransom said. "It's just a matter of making a choice of what's best for me."

The programs at each of the three schools want her on their respective teams, Ransom said.

A two-year starter for the Terrapins, the 5-foot-7 Ransom is second on the team in kills, second in aces, second in blocks and third in digging.

Elsewhere on the recruiting trail:

  • Plant junior libero Ali McCurdy will make an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech this weekend. Duke, Indiana and Purdue are among the other schools interested.
  • Plant senior middle blocker Jordan Dickie has received a scholarship offer from Eckerd. Appalachian State also is interested. Dickie missed both Plant matches this week because she is sick. She hopes to return to the court next week.
