(UPDATE: 12:20) Nature Coast hopes playoff game vs.Williston still possible

Nature Coast prinicpal Tizzy Schoelles said Thursday she has notified Williston of her intent to appeal to the Florida High School Athletic Association. Within her appeal, which she hopes to send via fax Thursday afternoon, Schoelles will request the FHSAA reverse its decision to cancel Friday's playoff game against Williston.

Schoelles said a Williston administrator planned to contact the FHSAA to see about having the game moved to Saturday, if it was restored.

Williston athletic director Jamie Baker confirmed Williston would request the game be moved to Saturday if restored.

"We shared with them (the FHSAA) we would prefer at this point to be able to play Saturday," Baker said. "That way at least Friday we could make plans instead of being in limbo. ...A lot of people say (the forfeit) gives you an open week. But we spent the last three days preparing for Nature Coast. It puts us in limbo. You know as well as I do you would like to know yes or no regardless. It's tough on us."

Nature Coast was forced to forfeit its Class 3A region quarterfinal Friday and was fined $10,400 by the FHSAA on Wednesday.

The ruling was in response to a Nov. 7 brawl with Groveland South Lake. South Lake was fined $8,500 and will not be allowed to play in a bowl game this season.

Joe...Per following article from your source, the principal at South Lake will further discipline students identified as being involved in fight. What is NCT doing to students involved in fight?

Apparently Ms. Schoelles hasn't had many dealings with the FHSAA. If they resend their suspension and restore the game the FHSAA will never be able to control a member school again, everyone will drop their memberships and it will be the "wild west" of high school athletics. Ms. Schoelles needs to put her energies into straightening out programs that have gone beyond her control.

Go directly to Jail. Do not pass GO! Do not collect $200!

Thanks Joe - you wonder if that Southlake coach would get "into it" with his "reported" friend over a football game and the benches clear earlier this season, why the FHSAA wouldn't take that into account as a pattern for his team and the inabilility for him and his staff and refs to get control in order to restart game, two games suspended in same season, interesting!

Tizzy, Gently take your hands off the reins, slide off the saddle, ease back toward your office desk, sit down, take a valium, fire Joyner, and start writing checks for fines. It's over. You're riding a dead horse.
