Support for the Sharks
The Florida High School Athletic Association is expected to make its final ruling tomorrow concerning Nature Coast's playoff game against Williston on Friday, among other things.
Tonight, Nature Coast supporters were heard at a Hernando County School Board meeting. St. Petersburg Times staff writer Tom Marshall was there and you can read his report here.
One of those to speak with Ken Lucier, whose son Brad, was suspended indefinitely after a referee identified him for "throwing punches" during a bench-clearing brawl Nov. 7 in a game against Groveland South Lake.
Here's a portion of Tom's report:
Ken Lucier criticized an "unacceptable investigation," and said his son had acted honorably.
"His actions were based upon his devotion to his teammates and the athletic staff at Nature Coast High School," he said. "He is the type of person who would give everything he has and take nothing for
himself."
Board members offered no comments on the FHSAA probe, but said they would support their schools in any case.
"We need to stick by you until this thing is over," said member Pat Fagan. "You will have my support."

7:44 they were on your sidelines whooping your butts

8:25 YOU ARE MY HERO!
Sam 3:53 you are a ZERO.
All of you losers that keep making excuses for criminals just keep right on showing your @@sses to the world.

sam (3:53) that girl was talking trash and provoked that player. it's not his fault. she started it. he had to defend himself and punching her in the mouth seemed like a good idea at the time. sound like a familiar argument. it's the same line of crap your football team, coaches, parents and admin. are hiding behind right now. your athletics programs are to be laughed at. dizzy tizzy too. go fhsaa and dr. wayne fire joyner and his big head.

This is to all the nct football players and athletes. Please do not let all of the negative things being said about you get to you. If any of these people had any sense they would give you words of advice and encouragement so if put in the situation again you could make a better decision because that is how we make this society better. The hardest part about being a man is accepting when you are wrong and accepting the consequences. I understand you probably were defending yourselves and your teammates but you were wrong for leaving the sidelines and coming on the field even though you did not have to move too far to get on the field. So accepted the consequences like and man, learn from the consequences like a man, and become a better man. And for all the ADULTS on hear talking bad about these KIDS remember this. Kids learn from us and the example you are setting right now is not a good one.

HEY SAM I TOTALLY AGREE.HEY NCT HATERS "DON'T HATE JUST APPRECIATE"NC WHAT "NCT GO SHARKS
Posted by: mike | November 19, 2008 at 04:22 PM
haha Mike, you are my new favorite person, granted I have no idea who are but that's neither here nor there, back to the point though, I totally agree with your statements. May I remind the NCT haters it was Central that started a fight with our football team last year, days later only to start another fight with the soccer players. Oh but my favorite story would have to be when a MALE basketball player at Sprindstead punched one of our FEMALE cheerleaders in the face 2 or 3 years ago. Of course though none of the other Hernando County schools have problems and all the children at those schools are perfect angels that do no wrong to anyone. Just think about that next time you bash NCT for defending themselves in a fight.

fhsaa hates nature coast they screwed my son his freshmen year i have no respect for fhsaa there the joke
Posted by: me | November 19, 2008 at 03:40 PM
in response to blah.the other three high schools have no problems and perfect kids that do no wrong.before you respond i really hope you really look into this.
Posted by: mike | November 19, 2008 at 03:19 PM
you know ive read all the comments on here and one thing that sticks out like an eye sore .some of you nct haters really can't handle nature coast not just winning but dominating this county in just about every sport.and some of you are determined to use this as a way to eliminate that.and what's even worse it doesn't matter who or what your main goal is to condemn and destroy a man's career and kids that have a promising future.further more i would interested in comparing nature coast kids academically to the three other high schools.i'm sure it's like the athletics no comparisson.so in closing before you judge somebody else look in the mirror first.
Posted by: mike | November 19, 2008 at 03:14 PM
HHS, Central and SHS aren't guilty of the stuff that NCT is, so they don't have everyone against them.
Posted by: blah | November 19, 2008 at 03:08 PM
some of the comments on here are absurd.i have one question for all the nct haters.if this had happenned to hernando high, central high,or springstead or even your own kids how many of you would comment and react the way you have?remember don't always be quick to judge or condemn one day it can come back to bite you.

Nature Coast forced to vacate the bracket. Just posted on FHSAA in the 3A bracket
Posted by: | November 19, 2008 at 02:14 PM
Well, all of the Central supporters seem to want to make the situation about the whole school and the thugs and all of that. So what we have here is an example of how Central has thugs also and SHOULD focus on this on incident and not make it all about Nature Coast as a whole. And in that aspect - it is very relevent.

11:22..."Hernando Today" is a rag. I like the way they protect the minor's identity by not publishing his name, but describe him as the named girl's 15 year old brother.

They were arrested and dealt with--they aren't football players brawling at a game. So whats the correlation? There are fights in school in middle schools and high schools, unfortunately. They also fight in parking lots, at parties, and what have you. But only at NCT do you seem to think its acceptable and try to blame everyone else (though I do think the mom in this story is whacked)

And I think that the other county schools should get over themsevlves! When NCT played Hernando and Springstead this year both games were good clean games in which both teams grouped together and prayed afterwords. Dont let your Hate for Nature Coast Cloud your judgement. Because this could be any of OUR county schools in the same situation.

I think that some of us are so sick of hearing about NCT being innocent...if you have ever had to watch teams play them, they are NOT the innocent. Every game is the same with them, they spit, talk filthy, and will continue to pound after the whistle....I am just glad that someone is trying to do something about them. Sorry that Groveland is the team that got this chance to make the example, because there are 3 local high schools that would love to be there with them......

Pat Fagan should practice what the school district preaches:

Why was South Lake on the Nature Coast sideline? It is only 50yds accross the field from their side of the field. Maybe they got lost in the dark. Except they ran the 50 yds faster than their 40 times. Maybe it was planned ahead of time. The video will help explain it all but the first question still stands. Any response from the South Lake players and coaches why they were on NCT's sideline?

I tried to stay off these things, but the more I read the more I get INFURIATED and DISGUSTED. This is the problem with our society, young adults and people in general can never just take responsibility for their actions! Now, not only are the kids deflecting the blame so too are the parents. Now I see where these "thugs" get it from.
"It wasn’t my fault, they were charging like Mel Gibson in brave heart. I was just defending myself. I know the kid was already down and hurt, but I just kept stomping on him with my cleats until he had internal bleeding to defend my teammates"..."It wasn’t my fault, I wanted that dirt bike and my mommy wouldn’t get it for me for my birthday, so it was only fair for me to steal my neighbor's without asking"... "It isn’t our fault that these kids are coming to our school just for athletics that is just a coincidence. The other county schools are the ones you should blame for their poor academics and/or athletics, not us"
What is next, seriously! Excuse after excuse, misplaced blame, after misplaced blame, pardoning after pardoning, how much can they get away with before something is done? If it looks like a "problem", acts like a "problem", sounds like a "problem, and smells like a "problem". Then it is a PROBLEM!
School board and FHSAA please don’t let another blatant disrespect and disregard for authority and good sportsmanship go unpunished.

More than 2/3 thirds of the people who were planning on attending last nights School Board Meeting were asked to stay home at the last minute, so as to not embarass Dr. Alexender for his questionable actions, and to keep the gathering a more mundane civil affair,in respect to our newly installed School Board Member. Depending on the FHSAAs usually monetary driven & biased reports, plus their ruling history against smaller county school participants, the next meeting may not be so enjoyable. They might want to consider moving the next meeting to the Hernando High School Theatre.

You people were not there!!! Stop commenting on an incident you know nothing about. Everything out of Groveland is being fabricated to save their own neck from lawsuits. Seriously, stop commenting.

lucier----your son should have honorably told his nct family not to commit those felonies over the summer
Posted by: | November 18, 2008 at 10:32 PM
fagan if you support this lunacy i can't wait for the chance to vote you out and as for you 9:49 they are being punished for getting into yet another fight. this team is not being victimized. so far the punishment does not fit the crime. another fight while on probation; come on man. no playoffs, no spring game, no fall game and if it happens again no sharks.
Posted by: | November 18, 2008 at 10:29 PM
Do not doubt for one second that these coaches and players knew what was at stake! They are being punished for defending themselves and helping their team mates during an attack!
Posted by: | November 18, 2008 at 09:49 PM
None of that happened falcon.. that is the thing. The bench never cleared - South Lake was on the Nature Coast sideline! The players were instructed to move to the fence behind the track and did so.

Thanks you Mr. Fagan!
Posted by: | November 18, 2008 at 09:36 PM
i think they deserved what they got they knew the consequences and they knew the outcome of those actions . I say let them play but keep those who are suspended , suspended. joyner should have told them what they had to lose if this whould happen so he is just as responsible as the kids who threw the punches .
