East Bay's Cox commits to N.C. State
Standout East Bay pitcher Kayla Cox, a junior, has committed to N.C. State. Cox, who will be a three-year starter this spring, is expected to be among the region's top hurlers in 2009.
She visited N.C. State last fall.
"She said everything went real well with her and the coach," Indians coach Glenn Rodriguez said. "And also, she bonded with the girls up there real well that she met. She just thought it was the perfect opportunity and the perfect fit for her."
A right-hander, the 5-foot-10 Cox has been East Bay's No. 1 pitcher the past two seasons. In 2008, she was 14-6 with a 1.69 ERA and 170 strikeouts. At the plate, she hit .275.
As a ninth-grader, Cox went 14-9, posted a 2.09 ERA and struck out 165 batters.
