Several Pinellas schools to appeal FHSAA's reclassification
Clearwater Central Catholic, Dixie Hollins, Gibbs and St. Petersburg Catholic all appealed to move into another district after the Florida High School Athletic Association announced its reclassification for football last month.
The deadline to appeal was Jan. 9.
CCC and Dixie Hollins are both asking to move down one classification. CCC wants to go from Class 2B to Class A, citing travel costs, according to the school’s former athletic director, Bob Cotter. Dixie Hollins hopes to move down from Class 4A to 3A because it is only five students short of the cutoff to go to 3A.
SPC and Gibbs both want to move up. SPC is looking to move from Class 2B to Class 2A because of travel concerns. And Gibbs wants to go from Class 4A to 5A because it is close to the cutoff point.
The FHSAA will release final districts for football on Friday.
