PHU picks Mark Haye as football coach
Palm Harbor University named defensive coordinator Mark Haye as the school's football coach, Hurricanes athletic director Larry Lopez said.
"Mark has a lot of great qualities and will bring energy to the program," Lopez said.
Haye, 28, was an assistant at Boca Ciega for three seasons before coming to PHU in 2007. Last season, he became the Hurricanes defensive coordinator and led a unit that allowed the least points in Class 5A, District 9 and helped the team finish plus-24 in turnover ratio.
"I love the school and I love the kids," Haye said. "I didn't apply anywhere else to be a head coach. This is exactly where I wanted to be."
Haye replaces Pete Just, who resigned in January after leading PHU to a 7-3 record and the school's first winning season.
"Pete laid down a good foundation," Haye said. "I want continue building from that. Hopefully we can keep on winning."
