Basketball: Summer is no slow season for Amber and John Henson

There's no slowing down for basketball players John and Amber Henson.

The brother-sister pair have a busy summer. Amber Henson, who will enter her junior season at Sickles in the fall, is nearly fully recovered from a broken hand she suffered in a game nearly two months ago. She is spending this week at Point Guard College, a week-long program that teaches on-court leadership and awareness, in Oklahoma City.

Her father, Matt Henson, said Amber is also slated to play in a pair of July tournaments: The Nike U.S. Junior Nationals (17-U) in Washington, D.C. (July 22-25) and the Nike Nationals in Augusta, Ga. (July 28-31)

John Henson, the consensus All-American who just eneded his senior year at Sickles, is already enrolled at North Carolina, taking some freshman courses and working out with the basketball team.

"He's getting used to life in college," Matt Henson said. "They teach how to eat right and how to have a routine. I would expect by the beginning of the season he would put on 15, maybe 20 pounds."
