Gaither lineman Trey Gonzalez transfers to Hillsborough

Former Gaither offensive lineman Trey Gonzalez has transferred to Hillsborough, Terriers coach Earl Garcia confirmed.

Gonzalez was the Cowboys' top senior lineman. Last year he played guard and opened holes for current South Carolina running back Jarvis Giles. He came to Gaither last season after starting high school at Sickles.

Hillsborough also recently added former Middleton standout lineman Andre Gunn.

I see your point Mrs. Football, but I'm gonna still have to respectfully disagree. I just kinda have a problem when you say that "kids just have to find their fit in the world no matter what age they are", their kids and while playing sports is a lot of fun, academics should come first. An most of these kids are transferring to other schools purely on sports. They should find out really what school they want to go to before the 9th grade and make the move then. I just believe that transfers are getting waaaaay out of hand and it doesn't give a school a chance to build a program. An until the school board follows what Broward county did, we're still gonna see Armwood and Plant keep blowing everybody out. I'm kinda sick of hearing Plant and Armwood every year in the post-season. It would be nice to hear Leto, King, Gaither, Robinson, Jefferson, or any other high school go deeper then the first round. It's never gonna happen with the way transfers are right now. That's just my opinion, and I respect your son's point of view is too. It's a very tough situation.

Wellswood save some of that spark for the football season... I do understand what your trying to say about moving around from school to school, I agree to a certain degree, but as my son would say "Mom, you've never been on a footbal team", so I do leave the final word to those who currently are on the field. Sometimes people just have to find their fit in the world no matter what age they are. Yes..If you are good they will find you, but highschool football is a short 4 years, for some it will be the best years of their lives, for some just a beginning. Let them choose what's best for themselves...words are very powerful...and even the smallest use of a word could discourage someone. I have seen wonderful things happen to young men who have transferred in their Junior year..you just never know. To any young man or parent, GO FOR IT...Support your children in sports in any way you can...there is no time wasted when it is invested in a young souls future!!! You just never know. It's just how I see it, Football through the eyes of a MOM..Thanks for Reading Welswood!

I guess it all depends on what you want when you go into high school. A state championship or a scholarship to a college. Now sometimes you can have both but rarely does it happen.
There's school boundries for a reason. I just think you should follow the rules that are set in place. You can't do it in college without them taking a whole year from your eligibility away. They do it for a reason, not just in spite. It's got so bad down south in Broward county that they implemented the "sit out one year if you transfer" rule or whatever it's called. It basically gives other schools a chance to go deep in the playoffs without all the good players running to the winning programs. Let other schools have a chance to build a winning program, but they can't when kids run off. To the kids that do transfer like this kid that goes to 3 schools in 3 years is ridiculous. 3 SCHOOLS IN 3 YEARS!!! That to me is a "championship chaser". An frankly, I would be embarrassed if people thought of me that way. Don't worry, if you got the talent, they'll find you. Where's the LOYALTY!!!

wellsy my boy, name me one kids on a high school athletic team that doesnt wanna win a state championship please. why shouldnt a kid with talent transfer to school with a chance to win it all? look at jamison sweat of my good ole dunedins 2008 state championship baseball season. he won states for soccer in one of his first 3 years at phu. then transferred to dunedin because he knew phu had no shot at a baseball state title. and look what happened, 1st team all suncoast and a state championship. explain to me the harm in this.

For all the grammar police, win > when

Hey, if you want your kid to be known as a "championship chaser" then so be it. I know my kid isn't going to be changing schools just to try and when a championship. If he wins one where he's at, that's great. If he doesn't, he doesn't. As long as he's getting interest from D-1 or D-2 colleges, I'm good. Kids that change schools 3 times in 3 years come off as DESPERATE!!!

If you're good, they'll find you.

Wellswood, Your Back! I see you have not lost your spirit for football. I'm sure you would agree that chasing a championship is not a pointless goal? Sometimes it's just stepping stones to true destiny.... better to say I tried than...wonder.. I see you still have no nice words for Katherine..BUT WE DO!!!!! GO KATHERINE...GO..KATHERINE..

Looks like Hillsborough is loading up to compete with Tampa Bay Tech, It ain't gonna be enough though.

Tech Tech Tech

Also Eduardo, why glorify a kid that transfers so much. You and the media are half the problem for other kids that make legit transfers. You're probably the worst prep writer in this area. It's a close race inbetween you and Katherine Smith from the Tribune.

Perfect example of a kid chasing a championship. 3 schools in 3 years, but it was all for academics right?

Good kid. Coach Sipp will definately add the finishing touches to this young man and send him off to play at the next level.
