Lost weekend
Five more important things that didn’t last as long as the five-day Nextel Cup race “weekend’’ at Michigan.
1. The Anglo-Zanzibar War: British ships bombarded the island at 9 a.m. on Aug. 27, 1896, and the German-backed sultan, packing little more than a 1658-vintage cannon, surrendered 45 minutes later.
2. Pope-elect Stephen’s reign: Died of apoplexy just three days after being named in 752, not even making it to his ordination as bishop.
3. First Columbia shuttle flight: April 12-14, 1981 and way faster than 200 mph.
4. Dick Cheney’s presidency: Some might argue it’s actually lasted about six years, but officially it was two hours, five minutes in late July when President Busch invoked the 25th Amendment to have small growths removed from his colon.
5. Woodstock: Aug. 15-18, 1969, and way more groovy.

Follow the action around the track with Times sportswriter Brant James and the staff of the St. Petersburg Times.
What about the NHRA event in Reading, PA over the weekend. Is it over yet?
Let's hope we don't have to deal with rain at Bristol.
Thanks for the laugh Brant.
