Dukes charged with marijuana possession

Troubled Devil Rays prospect Elijah Dukes was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession after a traffic stop in Tampa on Monday night.

Tampa police stopped Dukes and a passenger, Willie Evans, for a loud music violation and, according to police, officers noted "a distinct odor of marijuana" coming from inside the 2006 Dodge Charger. After searching the vehicle, police found what they said was less than two grams of marijuana in the center console.

Dukes, 22, was expected to come to spring training next month with a strong chance to make the major league team as a reserve outfielder. The Rays initially had no comment on the arrest.

Dukes has been arrested several times previously, and also has been in trouble with the Rays, having been suspended several times last season for on- and off-field incidents. He also made headlines for criticizing the organization, including a much publicized line that "Those guys up there (in the big leagues) shower in Evian. Here, we use sewer water."

Also the Rays avoided arbitration by working out deals with infielder Ty Wigginton, who will make $2.7-million plus incentives, and reliever Seth McClung, who will make $750,000 plus incentives. They are headed to a hearing next month with a third player, backup catcher Josh Paul.

What is it going to take to release this guy who can not stay out of trouble. For someone who is supposed to be on the straight and trying hard to show the rays he can stay out of trouble he is doing a terrible job. How many arrests? How many suspensions? Really what does it take to stop him? He should be suspended and not allowed to come to spring. The Rays do not need another problem child in the club house or around the rest of the players. Dukes can not stay out of trouble he is the TO of baseball.

T.O. of baseball? This guy is no superstar. Don't shame T.O's name by associating him with this loser.

Rob

with all due respect Annie, a loud music violation and misdemeanor pot charges? If he can hit the ball (which I know he could, and still probably can), he's still 3 steroid suspensions from getting to "don't give this guy another chance" territory.

good to see my boy Ty Ty and old friend seth mcclung are settled

rob you obviously dont know much about baseball or sports in general. You would rather have a guy tear apart your team and complain to the media and rip your coach and ruin a season then a guy who smoked weed. You also dont think Elijah Dukes is a superstar? Well he obviously isnt now, but he is a top prospect. A top prospect whom many expect to become a superstar. Were you one of those guys who was saying bring Wally Pipp back, this other guy sucks

You too annie

You too annie

AND WHY ARE THEY CALLED DANS
WE DON'T NEED HOODLUMS & LAWBREAKERS PLAYING PRO SPORTS

Dukes should be dumped now!!! As talented as he appears to be he will only bring discord to the clubhouse of the Rays!! He appears to be just another spoiled and coddled punk who never learned right from wrong!! Regretably, this is becoming the norm for many of these young playa's!!

Typical

dumbass jig

stupid porch monkey
