Cantu sent down
The Devil Rays sent 2005 team MVP Jorge Cantu to Triple-A on Saturday. Cantu was optimistic he would return to his 2005 form after an injury shortened 2006 season, but lost his starting 2B job to B.J. Upton.

Another reason why the Devil Rays are a joke.
All Jorge Cantu did two years ago was crank 28 homers and drive in 117 runs. even last year's subpar injury-plagued performance still included 14 homers and 62 rbis.
I didn't realize the Devil Rays had suddenly become the Yankees and didn't have room for even that kind of production out of middle infield.
If Cantu wasn't in their plans, they should have traded him in the off-season. He has absolutely nothing to prove in AAA, which is a complete slap-in-the-face to an everyday major leaguer who has nothing left to prove in the minors.
Welcome to another fifth-place finish, Tampa.
