McClung, Orvella sent down

The Devil Rays reduced their spring roster to 30 on Friday  by sending RHP Seth McClung and RHP Chad Orvella to Triple- A Durham. That would seem to indicate RHPs Gary Glover, Jae Kuk Ryu and Juan Salas have made hte team.

Also, first baseman Carlos Pena was reassigned to minor league camp.

How can they justify cutting Orvella? The guy had the best spring out of any reliever in camp. So much for positions being awarded on this team based on merit. I guess that means we can all expect Paul to win the back up catcher role over Riggans now too. Riggans is a better defensive and offensive catcher. He is also younger and has a future with this team. He hit .300+ this spring and Paul is hitting below the Mendoza line. Paul better not make this team.

RAYS ROSTER: GLAD TO SEE SALAS MAKE THE TEAM. ORVELLA,LIKE HOWELL WILL BE READY WHEN NEEDED. SO MARC,ABOUT CC & HORNSBY AS THE ONLY 2 TO INCREASE HR & BA,5YRS. WE CAN THROW OUT THE 1ST THREE YRS. ANYONE CAN GO FROM 5 HRS TO 8,TO 9 THE NEXT YR LIKE ROGERS. OR LIKE CC,FROM 2-5-11. THAT IS AUTOMATIC. AFTER THAT YOU CAN START COMPARING 21 HRS,THEN THE 42.RIGHT?
