With bitter cold in New York, manager Joe Maddon played it safe by not playing DH Rocco Baldelli and C Dioner Navarro, who both have had hamstring problems. Jonny Gomes will DH Thursday night and Josh Paul will catch.
Maddon said he made the decision for precautionary reasons.
