« Rays statement | Main | Dukes held out again »

Police still not involved in Dukes matter

The wife of Devil Rays outfielder Elijah Dukes said she doesn't want to see her estranged husband go to jail for the verbal threats that prompted her to file a domestic violence injunction against the 22-year-old rookie.

Asked why NiShea Gilbert hasn't gone to the police with the threats -- which included a confrontation at her middle school job, a profanity-laced phone message and a cell phone message with a picture of a gun -- she said she simply wants Dukes to get help for his anger management problem.

“He needs help," Gilbert said. "I just want to see him get help."

Gilbert said she has not received contact from the Devil Rays or any law enforcement branch about the threats. She was, however, so inundated with calls at her job at Shields Middle School from media that she left early.

You guys seen the game, unbelievable, Devil Rays is my best team in the MLB. I wish I could go to watch all their games but ticket prices this season are getting very pricy. Brokers made the game hard to attend. Well talking about Brokers. I found a new web site where you can compare Tampa Bay Devil Rays ticket brokers, the site is
http://www.ticketwood.com/mlb/TampaBay-DevilRays-Tickets/index.php . Well I hope this will be helpful for you guys. Go Go Devil Rays. Keep me updated Great blog!!!

Has any one look at Elijah Dukes wife arrest record, it goes both ways. This is clearly a money issue. Why did she marry him, 3 women was pregnant at the same time. Money, Greed.

So now it comes out that the wife cleared out Elijiah's bank account (claiming it was her money as well when he was obviously the one making thousands) before the school incident. Also, she asked for child support in excess of $28,000 a month when Dukes only makes $29,000????? Is everyone else seeing these FACTS here, or is everyone too interested in believing allegations and unproven statements?

Josh.... Again.... It doesn't quite matter what she WANTS... It doesn't matter if she is greedy... It doesn't give him an excuse to send the pic and leave the message and threaten her at her job... The point is this guy is a powder keg. He needs help.

Back to the game: The Mariners helped out Fossum last night by trying to pull a lot of his pitches. If hitters want to get themselves out, let them. Maddon's lineups still drive me crazy; no-hit Navarro offers Young no protection.

Is Gilbert a saint? Obviously not. But some posters seemingly trying to place the blame on her are being ridiculous. Next they'll be claiming that the cell phone message was someone else that she found with a voice just like Duke's. Or maybe she was taping all his conversations, and this message was a cut & paste job. And the picture - that was likely just Duke's showing off a new gift, right? Give me a break. Then we'll hear how people upset at Duke's are racists, that it's poor Elijah's childhood, or some other equally stupid nonsense.
The FACTS are that this guy has had an anger problem for years, and has shown it over & over. Combine that with an obvious low intelligence (the phone message ACTUALLY LEFT ON AN ANSWERING MACHINE, having 3 women pregnant at the same time, etc) & a time bomb is waiting to explode.
The guy needs help before someone is seriously hurt or worse. If he doesn't get help, well, did he ever play running back? The Bucs will take anyone.

All I can say is Dukes wife is just like her sisiter Nikia. Nikia has her husband in and out of the court entertaining her mood swings. Her husband can't go home due to retraining orders. Howerever, she is spending money on a hotel room for them to stay in each night. Duke's wife is playing with her husband and so is Nikia her sister.
