Rays take high school RHP in third

The Rays have now picked pitchers in the first three rounds, with the latest being RHP Nicholas Barnese out of Simi Valley HS

Baseball America scouting report on Barnese states that he's athletic with a quick arm, a fastball that reaches the mid-90s and has some life especially lower in the strike zone. He's got good command of his fastball and isn't afraid to work inside...was slated to go to Cal State Fullerton

Barnese did miss his junior year at Simi Valley High due to a team-imposed suspension

Let's hope the Rays finally sign a 3rd round pick. The last 2 years, and 3 of the previous 4,they drafted H.S. pitchers, but did not sign them....wasted picks a franchise cannot afford to do.One of those was Andrew Miller in '03.Gee...I wonder how he would look in the Rays organization right now!

Steve,

Spoke to Barnese's father last night, and he said Nick plans to sign.
