Sternberg backs Maddon
Manager Joe Maddon has taken a lot of criticism from fans, but he got a strong endorsement from principal owner Stuart Sternberg. "Joe's done a good job,"" Sternberg said. "It's not easy being upbeat or positive with all this and he has been. The players seem to be playing for him and they seem to be responding. Guys are hustling. ... It's no one person's fault here."

Why didn't the Rays grab Jim Leyland before Detroit hired him in the fall of 2005? He and Chuck Hernandez (our former Pitching Coach) have done wonders with the Tigers young pitching staff and look at what they have been able to do thus far this year with a makeshift bullpen. Also Bobby Valentine, who was one of the finalists when Maddon was hired, would have been a solid hire. Why not contact him again and see if he's interested in coming back from Japan and managing in the US again? Maddon is a nice guy but I feel he is just better suited to be a bench coach or minor league coordinator.

Time to put an end to the suffering. Fire Maddon now and promote Evers or Foley as Interim Manager and start the search for a new skipper.

I think Joe Maddon has forgotten his roots to the game. He thinks he is a players manager. But in the situation he is in with so many younger players, he needs to teach respect for the game and he need not forget his own path to where he sits now and it is not just with a computor. A lot of baseball minds used to make an impression on the minor league catcher and there was no such thing as a think pad. I think he needs to start utilizing some of the baseball minds that are around him and remember this game has been played since the 1800's alot of history and these young players need to be reminded of you earn your place in the game its not a given!

I personally think that Maddon is just a baby sitter to the Rays team. They need a manager that will manage them, not pamper them. He looks like a school teacher with his pad of paper at every game. Come on. Let's get the team motivated. Alice from Largo
