Ex-Rays report - they're back!

Monday turned out to be a big day for recently departed Devil Rays.

First, INF Jorge Cantu was called up by the Reds and singled in his first at-bat as a pinch-hitter in the eighth. Then late Monday, the Brewers announced they were calling up RHP Seth McClung, who will join their bullpen today.

McClung will land right in the middle of a fierce pennant race, as Brewers are tied for first with the Lou Piniella-led Cubs, and it will be interesting to see how he handles it. Big Red pitched extremely well at Triple-A Nashville since being traded for RHP Grant Balfour, going 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA in five outings (three starts). Most significantly, he allowed only five walks in 19 innings while striking out 25.

Hey johnathan, players seem to mature after the leave the pink sox too. Remember da Bambino?

DJ

Oh yea, I forgot, they are called the St. Pete Devil Rays. The Anaheim Angels are pretty good aren't they?

Norm

I thought Lugo played in St. Pete.
Does Tampa have a team now?

Ray

Hey Papelbon (Jonathan), get off our blog. ;-)

I'm happy they're doing well, but not for the money they wanted. And I'm sure the Red Sox fans have been elated with Lugo's bat. But, seems he only gets up for the Rays (same as Huff).

DJ

Yea, Lugo's best year in the majors was in Tampa. Houston got rid of him, he comes to Tampa and gets 10 million a year from Boston. Now he stinks again... Huff is terrible this year... Carlos Pena wasn't going to get a chance with anyone, now he's pushing 30 homers in Tampa with over a month left in the season... Brendan Harris is a legit starter now. Never given a chance anywhere else... THE PIRATES gave up on Ty Wigginton. He comes to Tampa and turns into a hot commodity... Danys Baez? Best years were in Tampa... Borowski's career was resurrected in Tampa... ALSO, are Crawford, Upton, Kazmir, Sheilds, Young, and Reyes not succeeding in Tampa? There a plenty of examples of players who played well in Tampa.

david

umm, Jonathan, want to name to me which people exactly you are talking about? is is .200 hitter, Lugo? his 6.00 ERA brother in oakland? .250 Huff? i'm just not sure what you are looking at. McLung has always had great minor league numbers, wait and see how he does before you chastice the organization.

JONATHAN

It is the D-Rays organization that brings eveyone down. Just something about the team, mgmt, atmosphere, etc... that holds these guys back. None of the players are going to succeed in Tampa. So glad to hear some of them got out of there and are headed back into the positive side of baseball.
