Sounds like the "old" George

Reports of George Steinbrenner's demise seem greatly exaggerated based on an interview with the Bergen (N.J) Record published Sunday.
The Tampa-based Steinbrenner, who is expected at Yankee Stadium for tonight's Game 3 of the AL Division Series, told the newspaper, among other things, that manager Joe Torre will be fired if the Yankees fail to advance past Cleveland.
"His job is on the line," Steinbrenner said. "I think we're paying him a lot of money. He's the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don't think we'd take him back if we don't win this series."
Steinbrenner, sounding much the George of old, also said he is very much in charge of the team, that he expects A-Rod to be back with the Yankees and the umpires did a bad job in not stopping play with the bugs invaded Cleveland.

It's all expectation level. There is NONE in Tampa. Don't lose 100 games, get your contract extended. Make the playoffs every year and win "only" four championships and your job is on the line.

Meanwhile, the DBacks, who came into being the same year as the local losers, are playing for another NL title.

It's just the mentality of a Yankee fan & Owner ship. They came to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg in mass. They screamed in mass, they chanted MVP in mass for A Rod but now as in past years Boo in mass at there super star during playoffs. That is why A Rod is going to DUMP them like a hot potato this off season. You can bet your next years World Series Ticket on that.

New York's no-nonsense fans are not thrilled with Rodriguez in Post Season. A-Rod went 2-for-8 with 4 strikeouts & is now 6-for-51 with zero RBIs in his last 15 playoffs games. Now he is facing his home crowd & if he can't pull it together they will be blaming him instead of the bugs for loosing. As Ray fans we would just love to get to a post season & we are on the brink of doing that now. We have are own supper stars & soon they will be known to the rest of the baseball world. I sure hope they come in mass to cheer not to boo next year.
As far as Steinbrenner he's off his rocker also. The best manager in baseball has gotten the team to the post season every year under his leadership. Steinbrenner should fire himself because he is the one who spent the money & he is the most over paid owner. We don't even want him in Tampa.

Speak for yourself, Charles. Steinbrenner acts like a winner, talks like a winner, and is a winner. Sterberg is a total jerk and loser.

And by the way, Torre is not among the top five baseball managers.

who cares, baseball is over, thank god! Now we have to watch the Bucs play-jesus christ!
