40-man set

The Rays added four players to the 40-man roster -- catcher John Jaso, outfielder Fernando Perez, outfielder Jason Pridie and left-hander pitcher James Houser -- and designated relievers Brian Stokes and Jon Switzer for assignment.

The Rays also traded Chris Snelling, who they claimed off waivers last month, to the Phillies for cash, opening another spot on the 40-man, which is now at full capacity.

The team has 10 days to trade, release or outright Stokes and Switzer.

Stokes, who was a candidate to be the team's closer in spring training, struggled as a late-inning reliever early in the season and never recovered, going 2-7 with a 7.07 ERA in 59 appearances during his first full major league season.

Switzer, the Rays' second-round draft pick in 2001, one of the team's only left-handed relievers, was 0-2 with a 8.05 ERA in 21 outings.

Good moves to add Jaso and Perez. I am very glad that Brian Chokes is gone.

Pridie has potential as a backup outfielder. He hits left, can play all 3 OF positions, and has a little speed & pop.

Perez has potential to be a good OF not just a backup and Jaso is our future at catcher

It is pretty early in the morning...I hope Bob R is being sarcastic....if not, then I am very concerned that his glasses are really too rosy, and not able to see Reality.

Does anyone know why the Rays keep an infielder by the name of Elliott Johnson on the 40 man who barely hit .200 at Durham this year?

I have a feeling that Johnson may be a casualty when they sign a FA reliever

Reality, as you may have guessed, somebody hijacked my user ID to post nonsense under my name. It seems as if the administrator has removed them. Each person may decide whether the effort to caricature my views was funny, fair-minded or otherwise and whether it added anything of value to the conversation on this site.

Actually even though I wasn't the one who made the original post, I totally agree with the sentiments contained therein. The Rays are the most skilled team in baseball, Sternberg is generous to a fault, and he would never dream of ripping off taxpayers.

Apparently it is someone's purpose to drive me from the site. I am sorry it has deteriorated to this situation.

I never paid attention to the Rays blog, as I try to devote time to only the Bulls one, so I didnt know you were some kook poster, who actually believes the Rays are doing well. The rays are a joke of a franchise. They need to take the Oakland A's template and spend some money....
