Young finishes second

Young_2 Rays RF Delmon Young finished second in the AL Rookie of the Year voting announced Monday.

Boston 2B Dustin Pedoria was the winner with 132 points, including 24 of the 28 first-place votes. Young was second with 56 points and three first-place votes. Kansas City's Brian Bannister was third with 36 points and the remaining first-place vote. Boston's Daisuke Matsuzaka was fourth, the Angels Reggie Willits fifth and Boston's Hideki Okajima sixth.

Voting was done by members of the Baseball Writers Association of America based on regular season performance, with ballots from two writers in each AL city cast before the start of the playoffs.

Pedroia (Your article misspelled his name) deserved the award but the vote should have been closer. Obviously some writers remember his bat-throwing incident at Durham. Young has greater potential but needs more plate discipline and personal maturity.

Pedroia deserved to win the award when you compare the two of them, but DY was close. DY will have the better career because this is as good as Pedroia will be, while DY will only get better.

eugh i can't stand dustin pedroia. just want to knock the snot out of his ugly little face. he talks himself up every chance he gets, as though we all want to hear about how he's the s---.

It would have been nice for DY, and the Rays organization for that matter, to have gotten the recognition of the ROY award.

However, the award is certainly NOT a predictor of future success, many players have won ROY only to drop off the map. DY will have a much better career than Pedroia when it's all said and done.

With all the kids in the pipeline, a ROY for a Rays player is certain to happen SOON. Evan Longoria in 2008!!

GO RAYS!!

The voting should have been much, much closer. There's no question who will have a more productive career. Young took a big hit because of the team he plays for....all the good Rays players (about 6) will bail out of their contracts unless this owner commits to fielding a competitive team.

If Delmon Young was on Boston he would have finished 1st in all catagories playing on that field. Dustin Pedoria playing at the Trop without the wall wouldn't have made the list.
GO FIGURE
