Floyd deal not done, but getting closer

The Rays moved closer to signing free-agent outfielder Cliff Floyd to a one-year contract with a club option for 2009. Internet reports emerged Thursday that a deal had been completed, but the Rays said some details still have to be worked out.

“We are still working through some of the finer points but we are optimistic we will have a positive announcement early next week,” Rays executive vice president Andrew Friedman said Thursday evening.

Floyd, who hit .284 with nine homers and 45 RBIs in 282 at bats last season with the Cubs, would give the Rays a much-needed left-handed outfield bat.

Sticky air

So what!!! They have found another slug to sign for just above the league minimum or either he has a real crappy agent. Or maybe this is someone who just really wants to be in Gooberville with the rest of the Goobers.

You guys certainly have a problem crediting sources don't you? Heard of Ron Borges in the Boston Globe? What about JP Peterson talking with Boof Bonser at a golf tournament a day before the Delmon Young trade?

Does Jayson Stark and Jerry Crasnick count as "internet rumors"? Why is the St. Pete Times coverage of this club so freaking incompetent? Do you have a vendetta against a competitor's report or you can't credit them?
