Radio broadcaster Freed to stay
Radio broadcaster Andy Freed said Friday morning he will stay with the Rays and withdrew from consideration for a job with the Mets.
Freed was a strong candidate - the leading candidate, according to some reports - for the vacancy in New York but decided he'd prefer for professional and family reasons to stay put, and continue working with partner Dave Wills.
"I feel like my future is with the Rays,'' Freed said. "I love the people I work for, I love the person I work with, I feel like I fit here. I'm happy with the Rays.''

Word in NY is that they eliminated Freed as a candidate and to save face, Freed announced he would stay in Tampa. How bogus is that?

I've been underwhelmed by Freed and Wills. They spend a lot of time discussing their home lives and ignore what's happening on the field. I just want someone who will report on the game.

Remember, it was the St. Pete Times that didn't provide the newspapers/news at the Trop the day of the Dukes story. Poynter 101?
As for Andy - I stopped listening to "food talk" 2 years ago.

Charlie...Topkin by definition, can't be a "fantastic reporter and good Rays fan." He's one or the other. If he's a good Rays fan, he needs to resign or move to the city desk and type obits. He probably took that bogus "ethics" course from the Poynter Institute and thinks by not reporting the truth, that will help circulation. He doesn't even get embarrassed when bloggers give information that he either doesn't have knowledge of or doesn't want to print. He might as well be on Sternstein's payroll.

I didn't know Maury Wills and Alan Freed were the broadcasting spinmeisters for our beloved Rays. Wow!!!

Happy to hear you're staying, Andy. You and Wills make a great team.

A "fantastic" reporter? Yeah, maybe for the Ozona Bugle.

Marc, Your a fantastic reporter and good Rays Fan. I would not listen to anything that the BR's or the BS's say

Hey Topkin....
How about telling us about Raymond's contract? He's the only Rays employee worth watching or listening to. Is it true he will replace the Philly Fanatic when he becomes a UFA? Or will he opt for arbitration? I also notice he has bulked up the past couple of years. How about a Raymond on Roids expose? Or are you going to keep on promoting the taxpayer boondoggle hatched by the carpetbaggers from Wall Street? Tell us more about the re-signing of worthless arms and futile bats. How come you haven't written yet that Scotty Kazmir is intent on bolting the Rays at his first opportunity? I guess it's easier to spoonfeed the gullible with garbage about some third-rate announcer.

hooray! he's a great announcer.
bax is back -- keep your inane comments to yourself. he's the RADIO BROADCASTER of the rays, you tool.

And yet you (BIB) cared enough to comment...oh, was that for our benefit to show us how clever you are? Gee, thanks.
Andy, thanks for sticking around. Hopefully, the Rays will validate your decision by giving you some good stuff to talk about.

Boy do I feel better now knowing Freed won't be leaving. I'm sure all Rays fans and the enture Rays family is breathing a sigh of relief.
Andy who?

Yet another person choosing life in Tampa Bay over life in NYC. No brainer there Andy. This is paradise!
