Gomes deal done
The Rays completed their one-year deal with OF/DH Jonny Gomes on Thursday, and it ended up right about where it was last night - a salary of $1.275-million, with the chance to make another $25,000 in incentives for making 500 plate appearances.
Gomes made $407,800 last season, hitting .244 with 17 homers and 49 RBIs in 107 games.
The Rays are continuing talks with their two remaining arbitration-eligible players, ace Scott Kazmir and 1B Carlos Pena, against a team-imposed Friday noon deadline.

J must not have been watching just prior to the All Star break when Gomes was getting consistent playing time and tearing it up. That's always been the key to his game. The trades have set the table for more of that kind of production.

His salary tripled! Sounds like a great deal for him. Should we expect 3X the production? At a minimum, he should provide better quality at bats. Specifically, working the count like a major leauge player should. Swinging for the fences every time makes him look like a bush league player. He needs to improve his on base percentage and situational hitting. It is time to stop acting like a rookie at the plate Jonny.

great, scathing review of him in link below. everyone seems to forget mr. “high revenues” tried to CONTRACT teams. he’s awful. he should resign.
