Hank Steinbrenner: It's over with Rays

New Yankees boss Hank Steinbrenner says in this New York Times piece he backs the way first-year manager Joe Girardi has handled the controversy with the Rays but also considers it to be over:

"The Yankees are my team, but the Rays are in my hometown, and hopefully it won’t become a problem,” he said. “I saw the replay of the play at the plate where our catcher got hurt, and that guy just lowered his shoulder and hit him — that wasn’t a normal collision at the plate. But now it should be done with, that’s all. They got in their shot and we got in our shot, and it’s over as far as I’m concerned.”

Steinbrenner also said: “Hopefully, everything dies down with the Rays. But nobody likes the Yankees anyway, and you just can’t continue to allow other teams to take advantage, and Joe’s certainly going to see to that. He’s got his players’ back, and I’ve got his back.”

Joe Girardi is a moron. He looked completely classless and inexperienced in handling this situation. I applaud the way Joe Maddon handled it all, backing his players without seeming like an idiot at the same time, like Joe G.

welcome to the moron-fest, hank....you mean he actually tried to separate the catcher from the ball? the way they teach you to? how dare he do that?! maybe in the regular season, we should tell your guys where each pitch is going, y'know, since you're the yankees and all....

Hey Hank, move back to New Yawk. Especially when you don't even know baseball and what it takes to dislodge a ball from a catcher.

Again, as everyone except the Yankees have said, it's a legal play and what Shelley did was absolutely wrong.

Have a nice flight back home.

Hey Hank, w/nothing but your father's chedder in da tank, here's a used tissue!

George needs to put a choke collar on this charmer. I heard he mentioned we shouldn’t play hard because the Jankees help pay us through revenue sharing. Your right I think revenue sharing is unfair. I vote for a salary cap through out to bring some parity to the league and of course it would be much more fair than us sharing revenue. You think they are scared now? Wait until we both get 75 million to field a team. I think that would taste much better to everyone involved. I would like to see what they would put on the field if they were spending 40 million instead of 220 million. Either way the Holy"er" that thou sh1**has got to stop. It's just a perfect example of the hypocrisy and the yankees Org and fan base have.

What's a "normal collision at the plate," one where your guy doesn't get hurt?

Was Shelley Duncan involved in a "normal cleating/knocking-the-ball-loose-from-a-glove?" (Depending on who you are)

Hank should be a comedian, everything that comes out of his mouth is laugh out loud material. The only thing that would make him funnier is for the Yankees to bomb out of the season early.
